Painting roof rails?

My Avant has old looking chrome rails which I want to darken or paint black.

Id o use the rails a couple of times a year so i'm not sure about painting them as it might scratch?

The price black ones go for puts them out of my range so anyone re-coloured theirs?

If your worried about chips take em
Of and get them
Powder coated

You could use plasti dip that stuff is pretty tough.

hi thanks for the replies.

Didn't think of powder coating, will have a look for a price. From what I have seen plasti-coat looks good, but not sure it would be durable enough.
