Hi Guys, As above im looking into getting myself an 8P S3. Obviously an already quick car.. I would be looking at a few common yet small mods.

Remap, exhaust, intake and intercooler.. what Would be a sensible number to be achieving?
I know i would need a clutch at some point, and people do say rather sooner than later.. Now it wouldnt be an issue in buying one.. but at what point would i need to be looking at changing.

I should be OK on a stage 1 map with a standard clutch (dependent on miles)?

Also.. are there any hidden things should be looking for, common faults/issues?

Cheers
Chris

If your changing the clutch I would change the flywheel too, so add that to your to-do/saving list.

I've had my s3 for just over 2 years now.
It had a new drive shaft and air con unit under warranty when i got it.
Its stage 1 revo and has a miltek non res cat back. I think i get around 315bhp. Mine is on the original dsg clutch.
So far I've had the following problems
Drivers electric window switch replaced
4wd pump replaced
Rear washer jet replaced
Pcv valve and gasket replaced
On top of that I've had two sets of tyres
All 4 discs and pads have been replaced
New windscreen
Major service was about 600
Cambelt alternator belt and water pump have all been changed
Usual minor service x3. Do it myself for about 60
New set of gen audi rotors
I get up to 36mpg if I'm careful and high teens if not.
Insurance is 300 a year for me
Tax is 270ish
Tyres are 90 a go (goodyear eagle f1s)
Awesome car when its behaving. A pain in the **** when its not and expensive.
Hope that gives you an idea.

I guess that's what happens when you start fingering a car.

Holy **** batman!! You must be one unlucky sod! Mine hasn't had any of the issues you have listed there (thank goodness!) apart from the obvious like needing to put new tyres on...

Likewise.

You all know what's been done to mine and so far no real problems that we didn't expect.

Yeah great innit! Its 5 years old now so I'd say things like the major service, discs and pads cambelt change etc are normal wear an tear. The air con unit and drive shaft didn't cost me anything so its just the haldex pump, pcv valve, rear washer jet and electric window switch that have failed me.

So just like any other audi, when they go wrong... they go wrong! haha
Thanks for the info guys, i dont plan to go stupid. Iv had a go in a couple and they are quick, i wouldnt mind hitting 350-400 at some point!

For things like the audi nav.. iv noticed not many s3's have them, is it the same case as in some of the other audis and a pretty easy swap?

I really recommend the black edition if you can find one. Comes with lots of nice black bits and sat nav.

As an average,Stg1 is around 310-320bhp,Stg2 up to 360bhp,and Stg2+ 360-380bhp,but with midrange torque filled out by the uprated fuel pump.

After that, you'd be looking at a hybrid or big turbo, and the limit then is your wallet.

600bhp is reasonable and achieveable, and a few have gone beyond that....

it will keep me busy for sure!
Can you recommend any companies to supply parts, exhaust, intercoolers, intakes, brake upgrades? i know there are the obvious google searches and performance places around me.. but any preference to specialists?

Iv also been looking at the water meth kits, how are they on standard internals?

Cheers

Pat at LVS has a lot of good deals for forum members right now.

Exhausts....BCS seem to be the current choice.

Intercoolers....read this link for a breakdown of most of the current ones....

http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=180325

I have a ProAlloy which isn't on that list but has the biggest overall core area etc.

Intakes.....As above,see Pat.

WMI kits.....I have an AEM kit, which is simple to set up and run, although the absolute best is the Aquamist, but it does need proper setting up etc.
The AEM works well, and is more than good enough.

What you need is a good reliable tuner nearby who can fit and set up all this stuff, and ideally has done it before.
