When I ordered my car, opted for the metal valve caps, which the dealer put on the valves on collection day.

Realised I had never checked the tyre pressures and thought it was about time. 1 of the 4 caps would not come off/turn. Popped into the dealer this morning and they have sorted for me as I didn't want to risk damaging the rubber valve.

He said that they scratched it slightly getting it off as it was seized really tight. Must admit, probably wouldnt have noticed but they have said they have ordered me a new set.

Are these prone to seizing up?

only 1 of mine has done this i was unable to remove it. no matter what i tried.

They look great but I've gotta say metal screwing into rubber sounds like a really cr*p plan to me! :culpability:

It's metal screwing into metal. I put a dab of vaseline on mine, but I might go down the copperslip route too. Warrington_Audi on ebay were the cheapest, £15.50.

Be aware that Audi do 2 types of metal caps - ones for cars WITH the tyre pressure monitoring system, and one WITHOUT. Make sure you fit the right ones.

When fitting as has been mentioned a dab of Copaslip a good idea to prevent seizing.

I've seen the two types of metal valve caps offered - for cars with and without TPMS and I have no idea why there is a difference? As all or most Audi cars use indirect TPMS (don't get me going on that!) and that doesn't even measure tyre pressures I can't see why. Perhaps it is something to do with the metal in the caps affecting the electronics to do with the ABS system which is used by indirect TPMS. Perhaps the "special" TPMS caps have some special shielding?

I have the TPMS caps on my wife's A1, and the top (above the screw) is definitely thicker and slightly wider than a standard cap. Why though is a mystery to me.

I have the Audi caps for my A1 and this has the TPMS system on it ... I assume therfore I can just use these on my S3 when I get it , they can't be any different surely ?

I've just fitted some and mine has TPMS. The plastic caps are no different from the metal ones. As posted above and in the manual TPMS only kicks in if you have a massive loss in pressure I.e a blow out.

Otherwise you still need to check your ture pressures regularly. And if you fit them make sure you use Copper grease on the thread...otherwise the metal will fuse together:-(

FYI I bought mine off ebay for £4. No problems with the quality.

Absolutely you can, assuming you mean the OEM Audi accessory TPMS caps (the £22 ones!) then they are interchangeable between the A1 and S3 with TPMS systems

Yes that's what I mean the OEM one, had them on my S1 for last year so was hoping can just put onto S3 as TPMS must be the same on both cars surely ?

Little dab of copper grease on the threads, Got mini Sline decals on my chrome caps. Never had an issue in the past 5 years, had the same caps on my previous 8P.
