Hi all,

Got a set of Audi roof bars for my car the other day, but they didn't come with instructions.
Now I've put them on & done up the 2 hex type screws on each clamp, I've done them hand tight at present.

The tool that came with it is an allen key with a hex end, which sits into a plastic casing of sorts (kinda hard to describe)
I've read that this plastic bit is a pointer to ensure the correct torque when tightening the bolts??...
anyone know how that works? as it's just plastic?

Or does anyone have a copy of the instructions on these?

Cheers

Cheers for that, that's the link I found when googling it,
Sounds like mine, it states that the tool/ pointer somehow some way indicates the torque is correct? I'm wondering how the plastic pointer/hex tool type thingy can indicate you have done the bolts up enough??..

not that I could see, i'll have a thorough look when I get home.
It just looks like a flat end on it I gather it lines up with something, but what, I don't know.

Was going to put a bike on the roof, thought i'd better check it out if I can first lol

Wonder if it's the early version which was (iirc) a long thin hex key with a smallish handle. It had a pointer which showed correct torque against a sort of plate sticking out the side? If it's what I presume to be the more modern version (much thicker - hex end sticks out of the end) then if it has those markings then lining them up would produce the correct torque. All this said, 6nm isn't much so if you tighten them well then likely to be fine. Sorry can't help more.

I've got the Audi roofers on my B7 Avant and my tool is also broken!

All I did was nip the clamps up with the tool and have a good swing on the roof bars to see if they moved. If they don't it should be fine

I tightened mine up that way and the bars have never moved. I took the car down to a race last weekend with two bikes on the roof and it was rock solid.

Looks like I have a bit missing from the tool I received with mine.

I have the main part but look at the picture in the above link, there is a white piece attached, which I appear to be missing.
Oh well, like you say, I'm sure it's tight enough.
Yes - that's the type I'd had with a set of genuine bars back in the day - as I guess you've seen, there is another (perhaps later?) version which is more of a pronounced T shape. It has a pair of marks like this on the shank > < which I presume align once the torque is correct.

FWIW I have Thule bars on mine, which are used to carry two sea kayaks - there's no way of checking the torque on the fasteners as they are just tightened by turning the end caps which also hold the tightening bar in place. Like Graemetee I just give a good heave on them.

Well I took the advice.. tightened them up with the tool & given them a good yank... they've stayed on for a week or so now lol.
just need some bike racks to go on now.
Cheers guys
