Hello guys, needed a little help as it keeps appearing on the dash that parking brake right and left failure. Ive checked all the bulbs everything is working as it should.

From time to time it decides to show right brake light failure too. Ive taken all the bulbs out gave them a good clean. But the parking lights are still showing as a failure even though they are working fine.

What could this be?

Not sure what age your Audi is but there are reports (cant confirm personally) that moisture gets to the boot area and corrrision or oxidization of the contacts occurs.

I have read that sometimes you can hear very faint crackling by the lights when there is moisture present.

Another process I heard of is to get someone to press the brake peddle and you go around tapping each light to see if there is a bad connection.

In summary if I was in you - I would have a look at all the connections, fuses etc and give the connectors a good clean etc. Failing that get VCDS on to see if it shows any faults - hope this helps or provides food for thought

i had a similar problem with my right rear brake light, turned out to be dodgy contacts and bit of tape to hold them in place a bit firmer and so far done the trick... ..famous last words!!

I did ensure all the bulbs are firmly fit took them out and gave them a good clean. For some strange reason its appers on the screen not that the number plate lights aint working too, but theyre working fine.

Well the issues still exists. Ive replaced all the brake light and parking light bulbs with the correct ones. Everylight is working as it should, yet the on the dash its still showing the bulbs aren't working.

What could it be? Its just very annoying with the errors appearing.

Almost certainly dirty contacts somewhere - the seal on the bulb holder is known to compress / fail and this allows moisture in and corrodes the contacts - if you've cleaned the bulbs, did you clean the contacts in the holder too? I've found a squirt of contact cleaner (Maplins will have it) and rotating the bulbs in their holders works well. Do the same to the connectors - in and out a few times. The only real fix for the holder is a new one - unless anyone knows otherwise and has cunning solutions?

Thanks for the speedy reply, i didnt clean the contacts this time around, but previously did, without the use of any chemicals so ill be trying that too.

I am not sure if this is the case.

But if you are using any LED bulbs or any form of LED bulbs it will cause the warning. Even if its just one bulb

The brake lights and parking lights are all non leds. The only leds im using are interior ones and front side lights are leds. Dont know how that may have caused it.

Still worth putting back the standard side light bulbs just to make sure, after all they are the easiest to change.

Think ill try giving that a go, haha talking about easiest each time i try to remove the sidelights they seem to fall into the headlight. A job for another day open the headlight and remove all the sidelights.

The capless bulbs must be loose in the holder if they fall out. Next time you extract them, put some tension back into the brass connectors so the bulbs are held tight. If you have big mits like me, use long nose pliers to extract the holder out of the headlamp bowl and gently ease it out straight. My daughter has long slender fingers and can pull them easy if she is around.

Yoofs come in handy sometimes, even if there is some whinging and reluctance to exit from behind a computer screen, bribes help.
