So stumbled across this article about some man complaining about his Audi a5 using a litre of oil pretty much every time he fill's up his car of fuel. It goes on to say that this was a problem with the 2.0tfsi engine and affect's the car's with engine code CAEB. I wondered what the S3's engine code was? Since the article only say's it affects 2009-2010 Audi A4s and Audi A5s and 2011 Audi A4, Audi A5, and Audi Q5 so assuming S3/A3 isn't really affected by any of this?

BHZ & CDL on the later S3's. Drinking oil like there's no tomorrow is just one factor you get used to owning a 2.0tfsi. It's fairly common for them to drink a litre per 1000 miles. If you keep on top of it, you will be absolutely fine. It's worth getting the oil pick up pipe replaced, if you are overly worried though as these are common faults on the 2.0 tfsi that can cause oil problems.

86K here and mine uses very little oil. I actually don't think I've had to top it up since my previous service a year ago.

My neighbor has an A5 and asked me this the other day. I told him I'm in the same boat... ish... not every 1000 miles but close to it and mines a 2006 A3 that I've had since it was at 35K (now 89K) Good info, thanks

I had read about the TFSI engines using more oil than other engines before buying my A3 2.0T BWA engine but luckily mine usually only takes half a litre every 8 weeks or so which works out about 1L every 4000 miles.

Audi have admitted there is a problem with that particular engine code from the A5 though so maybe it was assembled incorrectly in the factory?

It is possible but VAG seem to have too many of these problems for what is a german car and compared to the bullet proof older engines.

PD140 - Chocolate turbo
DSG - Dodgy mechatronics
CR170 - Oil pump hex drive
TFSi - Oil consumption

That's quite a rap sheet imho...

Ive had my a3 1.8 tfsi just over a year and in that time ive actually lost count of the amount of plugs, coil packs and oil it has consumed, ive done about 15k miles in that time and it has finally given up and requires a new engine.
It was fairly high mileage at 135k when I purchased the car but it had a full audi service history and I feel the engine should have lasted longer than this.
My advice to anyone with an audi and silly oil consumption and out of warrenty is to purchase a warrenty scheme to cover yourself.
Ive decided to keep the car and fork out for the new re manufactured engine with the uprated pistons and 2mm oil scraper rings which the car should have had from the factory!

Think iv put about 3/4 of a litre of oil in my 2 litre TFSI A3 in 6000 miles

Had my car a year now, only done 5000 miles haven,t had to top up at all.ps it,s a 2.0 tfsi dsg..:)

Added some stuff about the TFSI oil consumption issue to another thread. Look towards the bottom of the page. It might help...
