As a new owner of an S3 I'm interested to see there's an S1 (never knew that!).

Since the announcement of the latest RS3 I was wondering if there's ever been or will there ever be an RS1?

Not any time soon. If there is it is likely 5+ years out. I'm 50:50 on it ever happening.

To be honest as you have an s3 can't believe you haven't heard of an s1!
In reply agree with Jose can't really see it as it would bring it to close in performance to the s3 think Audi made the s1 with less power so not to compete with it.
But it would be interesting!

I think if it did happen it would probably be minor cosmetics, maybe a boxy spoiler and different wheels and maybe power hike, but it won't get more HP than the S3. The same at most.

I agree - 300bhp will be the ceiling. But then when you look at the cost it would be as well, I'm pretty sure most people would just buy an S3. S1 vs S3 on PCP is already basically the same cost.

I think 300BHP and no S-Tronic will probably be a no-go in most peoples' eyes. There are so few manual S3s for sale compared to S-Tronic ones.

I thought there wasn't enough space for S-Tronic alongside the Haldex system?

If they put anymore power through that tiny thing im sure it would just sit on the spot wheels pinning surely lol

It was a weight, not space issue. They actually made an STronic one for testing - if you look at some of the marketing shots they used it and you can see the STronic gear lever!

Ah nice! Never knew that. I am enjoying the manual at the moment, but my next car will be a dual-clutch one again.

I actually think the S1 and S3 are different in more ways than that - I could afford either, but opted for the S1 because I think its aggressive styling (including the Quattro seats inside) and small, go-kart-esque size are just more interesting than the S3. I'm not convinced it needs more power, either - it's more in the car's character to thrash / work at it a little, not lazily surge in 6th like you'd expect from an S5, for example.

I doubt the would every be an RS1. Audi did the concept A1 Clubsport which just blew every car they have in the range out the water. It wouldn't make good business sense. Why buy the flag ship car (R8) if the baby does the same.

It doesn't make good business sense Why buy the flag ship car (R8) when the baby does the same thing. Porsche have the same issue with Cayman, obviously I know its a different class of car but if the Cayman was given the power it was supposed to have it would blow the 911 away.
