Hi guys I don't post on the a4 section very often i can usually be found on the 8p a3 forum.i just wondered if you guys might be able to help my partner has a 61 plate a4 saloon in the last couple of days we've heard a whining noise whilst driving which sort of resembles the noise you get with cheap tyres which gets worse when you speed up thanks in advance for any help

Thanks guys the cars just front wheel drive so i'am thinking you could be right about the wheel bearing I'll jack the car up tomorrow and have a look

All together.... Wheel bearing!
General advice is to change both sides as the other won't be far behind. I didn't do that 15k miles ago and the other side is fine.

My advice is check all 4 tyres for tread feathering! I had it occur on a bmw and Audi. Badly worn tyres can easily immitate a wheel bearing rumble and is by far cheaper to fix
