so I'm getting near my limit on discs and want them changed before my car goes in for a deep clean and protection in 2 weeks.

Anyway I decided on EBC red stuff brake pads and thought why not just order all together and get the discs from them too. However, before I ordered I noticed that they now come black coated.

Has anyone had these black geomet coated discs and can tell me if they stay black or go to the polished metal look when used. Just don't want the car to look stupid with different coloured discs between the front and the back.

Shorty may I ask why you decided on redstuff pads?
I contacted ebc and they recommended the yellowstuff instead of the reds. They said it's all around better pad than the redstuff.

I have no clue if that's a fact, as I have no experience with neither of them.

Sorry can't comment on the black surface rotors

Purely for the reduced brake dust. They're better than OEM and while not as good as the redstuff in terms of stopping power they do what i need but don't have as much brake dust.

I think that the best solution if you're after better stopping,is unfortunately the expensive one,of a decent brake kit.

My own experience of aftermarket pads(EBC in fact),was not a good one,in that the stopping power was no better, and overall was a bit underwhelming.
Now i admit that I'm not the most easily pleased, but it will come down to what you want from the car.

From my experience, albeit not on an S3, EBC redstuff offers nothing over oem pads other than a cheaper price.
Yellowstuff are a bit better but nothing amazing.

Black coating wears away and looks normal on the ones Ive had from Adams Rotors.
I use Hawk ceramics low dust pads.

Stopped using EBC pads quite a few years ago after a brake fade episode - went back to OEM pads and they were better both from cold and when pushing on.

Tend to use Ferodo DS2500 for fast road use now but I've also heard good things about Mintex M1144 pads.

well most know I prefer carbotech bobcats
Any chance you know the bobcats part numbers for 2010 S3 sportback? As I couldn't find it on their website. And not sure if our pads are identical to the US golf R

I contacted Ferodo asking for the DS performance pads, they say they don't offer front pads for my 2010 S3 Sportback only rears available.

Same goes to mintex. Couldn't find the M1144 pads for my car.

This is the part number for the front pads ... Ferrodo DS2500 FCP1765H

S3 sportback/3dr, Leon cupra, R32 share the same front brake caliper (just different colours). That's what I ordered for mine.

One last question
They do come with wear sensor or I'll need to solder it?

.

FWIW, carbotech will take any pad and reproduce the pad with their brake compound. You just send them a set of old pads off of any old s3 you can find and they make an exact duplicate. No more cost than whats listed for other pads. BTW, the main reason I support carbotech is I also have the racing pads and there is no need to rebed between changes from street to track to street. I know you have choices closer to home but this brake pad combination has been my go to for years. They are very low dust and rotor friendly

Quite interesting to read what people have been using on their S3's as a brake upgrade.

My first S3 was a 2008 @ Stage 1. I ordered EBC drilled and grooved discs with red stuff pads all round, braided hoses etc...
Cutting a rather long story short, they ruined the car. I appreciate that you will get added noise under heavy braking/ braking from high speed, but f*ck me, the noise was horrific with equally as horrific vibration.

The Nurburgring killed the discs, and warped the (EBC claimed) impossibly warpable discs...I was called a liar right up until their chief technician took the car for a spin.

They skimmed the discs claiming that the impossibly warpable discs where in fact suffering 'run out' ....????

Apparently I should have bought yellow stuff pads and I'd have had no issues...it was of course bullsh*t because they happily recommend and sold me red stuff pads matched to the discs.

The discs then died again without track daying the car...so I replaced them with OEM all round and couldn't have been happier.

I did a 9:08sec lap bridge to gantry with no fade!

I suspect EBC now recommend yellow stuff pads for S3 drivers because I took it very badly, and went out of my way to make sure they knew exactly what I thought of their crap advice, bullsh*t lies and gutless arrogance... (I'm not bitter by the way) haha

I'd recommend just a decent pads at stage 1-2 unless you have it as a weekend car or have much more bhp than stage 2 or indeed track day it often.

I know there are some guys here that have monster motors, but for us mere mortals that use they car every day I think you can kill the joy of the S3 by becoming too hardcore...

Just my humble little opinion guys, based on my experience so far.

My current one won't be getting the EBC treatment I'm afraid, I've been right put off.

I've got EBC set up discs and yellow stuff. The discs have warped and the pads are sh*t! The previous owner put them on. I've had them on my old s3 8l too again previous owner on both accounts they have been terrible. They fade just from some fast road driving. The dust it outrageous and now the wobble from the warp is pushing me over the edge! So I'm upgrading to ttrs set up until they warp or wear out the 2 part discs.

Yes the EBC warps easily. My friend installed them front and rear. First track day and they was warped. The yellow stuff pads had also disintegrated.
Me on the other end have old S3 "stock disc" and Ferrodo DS2500 pads front and back and no problems. The disc newer gave any signs of warping and this is still after 5sets of front pads. My front disc is also on there limit regarding the wear. But this is how they came when bought used on. Ebay. Stock disc is the best choice if not going bigger. Like Cista-P I also are looking into the RS3 set up and will probably just chang the stock "terrible" 2pice disc to something better when it's time.
