I want to buy a car and was almost set on placing an order for an S3 but was afraid it would be too sporty for me and that I would eventually tire from it coming from a Mercedes 2003 S class.

Here's my question: I just saw a fully loaded 2014 S6 with 24000 kms on it for the same price as a fully loaded S3 that I wanted to order.

Is the S6 a better choice for someone who wants a car with a dual personality? My S class served my comfort needs extremely well but never satisfied the performance oriented side of me so I think the S6 is the perfect car.

I am sure the S6 in its original ecu will outrun an S3 and sound better but what will It lack next to the S3?

Can anyone recommend me the right car to buy? I always find a new car more appealing but an S6 is a hell of an automobile and it still has a year of warranty left.

What do you guys think?

Coming from an S class i would probably go with an S6 rather than an S3, personally. And yes it is a hell of a car! Would you be going for an S3 hatch or saloon? if you were opting for a saloon then the choice seems a harder one, i have placed my judgment on you meaning the hatch.

I was thinking of getting the S3 sedan.

I just love the fact that the S6 has a TT v8 of only 4 liters for fuel economy and a 7 speed dual clutch. The perfect combination if you ask me.
Also, this car should be well over 500 hp and lb-ft of torque with a stage 1 tune.

It is a tough choice, given how stunning the saloon is (Trying not to be bias) lol.. But coming from an S class i think you would prefer the S6 and given it is only 2014 model its practically new still anyway! Beautiful motor indeed! and quite rare on my roads round manchester and the north west too!

Ultimately it is your decision, maybe test driving? if possible both cars and choosing based upon actually trying the cars out yourself may be the only true decision maker?

I really is a hard choice. I am only 24 years old so the S3 will suit me much more than the S6 but I also don't feel like waiting 3 months honestly.

If it helps.. I just turned 22 and last week after a 3 month wait picked up my s line saloon, the wait hurts. But there isn't many better feelings than sitting in your own fresh brand new car!

You are absolutely right. I will have a look at the car and test drive it. It might not have all the options I want in the S3 so that will help make my decision.

The S3 isn't "too sporty" as you put it.
It's an A3 Quattro with a powerful engine thrown in.
S6 all the way.

If you are coming from a S class think the S6 will probably be best choice.

S3 and tell me who is selling the S6 at around £30-35K and I will buy it and cancel my S3 order

450 v 300 BHP
4.5 v 4.9 sec for 0-62mph

seriously its a no brainer................. S6

I'm wondering what you want really, you claim you're worried an S3 might be too sporty yet your contemplating an uber rapid S6 and then thinking of a stage 1?
S6 is a big motor car and may be hampered in some cases by its sheer size.
Have you considered an S4, it has some size with out being too big?

But truly you need to drive both and make your own mind up. You dont have to wait for an S3 there are some in dealer stock and you may find one with a suitable spec you could pick up next week. Or even pick up a stock order that you can configure.

As Steeve says, depends what you want from a car. S6 is one hell of a car, but if you want something a little more lively around the lanes then S3.

My family having grown up, I downsized to the S3 from a run of M3's Evo's etc, went out to find an RS4 second-hand and finished up buying the S3 and absolutely love it. Would I have an S6? In a heartbeat. Would it be appropriate to needs for my lifestyle right now? No, the S3 is more appropriate. The only downside on the S3 SB I have is that boot space is limited (compared to an A3, where you can lower the boot floor), that aside. it's a cracker. But then so is an S6.

You decide - Head or Heart LOL!!

Test drive both and see what you prefer.

I honestly just want a rocket of a car that can be a comfy cruiser and a sports car for spirited driving on twisted mountain roads. I either driver slow or really fast and I would like a car that is similar to me in that way.

I don't really care about space but still want to carry 4 passengers around in acceptable comfort.

Its either an S3 which I drove and found a little too stiff or an almost brand new S6 2014.

just go the S6 - twin turbo, V8 450hp and according to reviews, its a decent handler..

couldn't help myself , local price for a 2014 S4 around $140,000 (aud) my S3 new $68,000 !

Ok so I saw the car and it is in very good condition. Needs some exterior polishing but that's about it.
It doesn't have the features I want such as heated seats, adaptive cruise control, blind spot assist etc...
Didn't get the chance to drive it but the ride was comfortable when the owner took me for a spin.
I still don't know if I should get it without the options I want or order a new FULLY loaded S3.

It sounds to me like you weren't totally blown away by the S6 and that possibly with your driving habits the S3 might be better suited anyway, plus you get brand spanking new and all the options you want.

I admit to not knowing too much about the S6 but I'm guessing fuel economy would be pretty horrendous with a V8 and 450HP if that bothers you?

Honestly I really liked the car but the lack of options is a bitter pill to swallow. The S3 will satisfy all my needs as far as options go and I have no doubt it will be dynamically superior but I just love the idea of a twin turbo V8 with cylinder deactivation and a 7 speed dual clutch transmission opposed to a 4 cylinder mated to a 6 speed DSG. Won't the S6 be more comfortable, effortless and sound better than an S3? It's killing me that I can't seem to make up my mind.

You tell me mate, I haven't sat in one!

I imagine yes to all those questions but then again it's a much bigger car and a superior engine. You must have a preference after riding in both? I'm guessing you prefer the S6 but are slightly put out by the options. (edit: err, you already said that!!)

Decisions, decisions..........!! ;)

There are so many other factors to take into consideration such as price, model, size etc...

The S6 is undervalued by at least 20k $ and the owner knows it so the car will depreciate much less if I buy the S6.

The S3 is more suited for a 24 year old like myself since I will not go back to driving an S3 at a later age so the S6 can be the next car after this one.

I prefer the S3's size and looks but they are starting to be common on the roads i drive but the S6 is extremely rare.

I am sure i will prefer the engine note, transmission and ride of the S6 but it is just too hard to choose. Can anyone help me out?

Never mind. I will be placing an order for a new S3 on Monday. Never experienced the joy of ripping the nylon off a new car's seat.

Thought about a new S4 saloon/avant @drummerdimitri

Some amazing discounts on these at the mo

333bhp of V6 3litre supercharged non-haldex old skool madness

Just a thought ... :D

What sort of discounts BH? (just know I'm gonna regret asking this) !

@Simon L - 20% plus are there for the asking / negotiating ;)

Check out the prices on the usual online brokers Si, you may get a surprise :)

Thanks but no thanks. A new generation A4 is due really soon and I don't want to drive a stick. DSG FTW!
@drummerdimitri - The new B9 S4 is along way off mind ... :whistle2:

All current new S4's are ALL s-tronic's (or DSG as you say) no pudding stirrers here :thumbs up:

@Simon L - Sorry about that ... :eyebrows:
:laugh::laugh::laugh:

.......you weren't kidding about those S4 prices. Already had a couple of carwow quotes that are comparable with what I've paid for the S3!

It's a swings n roundabouts job between the two to be honest. They are both fine looking cars although for me the S3 is the prettier side of handsome (rather like me!) and the S4 just had that one pizza too many :) The S3 also has the updated cabin.

.....but then the S4 has that supercharged engine ;) (gotta stop looking at youtube)

My S4 is virtually the same price discounted as what I was paying for the S3 saloon discounted :thumbs up:

Agree with the looks (not you tho' :p :kiss: :laugh:) and cabin comments my friend

You could always fit one of these exhausts too if you got a S4 Si ;):eek::D
