just a quick question for those people with garage queens low mileage cars do you keep your fuel tank full or just top up when needed.
The reason I ask is because I was told you should keep tank full if car is not used daily to protect fuel system.

Just wondered if anyone does this and if it makes any real difference.

Thanks.

Iv done 7000 miles in two years and my S3 usually just gets left with whatever's in it at the time, Iv never filled it up especially because I never know when Il next use it.

Iv never had any problems with it although it's only done 22,000 miles now

I was told you can get condensation in the tank this mixes with fuel and fuel goes off.
My car is garaged so it is nearly always same temp in there as garage connected to house.

We only tend to use the car at weekends, and I usually top the tank up before parking it back in the garage.

£40 put in once a month, certainly don't worry about condensation as I'm not sure it happens and if it did I am sure the fuel delivery system would be designed to cope with it...

Ya thats what i thought but our car is a tdi only used weekends as i am in the forces and condensation = water in diesel is not good but i dont like to have a full tank as never know when car is going to be used and a full tank could last 6 months so diesel could go bad sometimes car might not move for 2 weeks .

If yours is a tdi then the engine will have a water separator before the diesel reaches the engine. You'll get a warning flash up saying if theirs water in the fuel so I wouldn't worry. Diesel takes a long while to start degrading

I own an air-cooled Porsche which can go several weeks without being used.

I just fill up when I'm running low. I've never had a problem caused by bad fuel in my 9 years of ownership.

£50 of V-Power a month does me.

Mine stays in the garage and comes out at weekends or whenever needed, I just bike to work only round the corner!

I dont think any one on here should be concerned about this. The length of time we leave our cars it really wont make a difference.
Many of us leave our motorcycles laid up all winter or longer if they are classics. We generally park up with full tanks if we have steel fuel tanks as the condensation can cause them to rust.

Yup, plenty of those misconceptions. That is the problem with forums, once one person states a misconception everyone else then starts to panic and 'believe' they have a problem. I call it chinese whispers...
