There's lots of negativity about the new 8v RS3 coming from people the majority of which are current 8v S3 owners ,any thoughts as to why all this negativity ?.

I have a 8P S3 and I know it's quite different from the 8V BUT I cannot wait to get my hands on the 8V RS3. I wish at the time Id bought an 8P RS3 instead of the S3 but I won't be making the same mistake when it comes to the RS3 8V. I don't care about the negativity people want to associate with it, I like what I see, I like the way it sounds, it has more toys than my S3 has which had a lot anyway. Maybe the negativity strikes from people buying the 8V S3 and wished they'd waited a few extra months until the RS3 was revealed - little bit jealous.... Especially when they pull up side by side at a set of lights

But hey, a lot of people wanted the 'superior' EA888 engine in the RS3.....

Having compared both engines I'd have the 2.5 all day long, no matter how much HP the 2.0L is capable of putting out......

I also think there a few people that have never driven the 8p RS3, I know I am not alone in my experience of testing driving one and falling in love with the engine and just having to have one. So as long as the 8v is like the 8p… as in similar to the S3 but with a 5 pot - I am sold on it.

It is a bit pricey for a hatch back I admit, but its my money and I'll do what I want with it :)

Some of the negative comments are utter tosh to be quite honest. I also think there is quite a lot of self denial going on - whats not to like in an RS3 - if you are an A3/S3 owner? It is after all a variant of the A3 with a bit more poke and muscle. It is not a different model. What do people want? an RS3 that looks like something else or an RS4? well go buy an RS4 then. For me, at least, I love the shape and interior environment of my S3. I could do with some more geegees under the bonnet, some upgradded brakes and suspension to match the power, and some sublte changes to the exterior - which is exactly what I get from the RS3, which is why I too have one on order. If I wanted an AMG45 I'd buy one!

Love my S3 even though it's only 8 months old.

Gonna love my RS3, even if that's for only 8 months.....

Hell I've said it before, 2012 S3, 2013 A5, 2014 S3, 2015 RS3 - When you wanna move on, move on. Don't bitch about choices others make just because it's not the same choice as you.

I love my S3. I would love an RS3 but can't really justify the extra £8k right now. It looks superb, but I wish a saloon would be confirmed. Looking forward to seeing the collection pics in a few months time. Exciting times.

A lot of reviews I've read on the new RS 3 say it's good, however they are still saying the VW alternative (I won't swear by saying its name) is better.

It's a shame really and doesn't make me want to part with 25k + mine.

I agree, and although it looks pretty I won't be replacing my Mk1 with a Mk 2 any time soon. If they had managed to transform the handling with proper torque vectoring (the kind which uses an extra diff rather than the brakes) then I would have been sorely tempted.

Interestingly, in the brochure it talks about sending 50-100% of the power to the rear in ESP-Sport mode. Which I interpret as it does a 50-50 split at all times, and more can get to the road at the rear if the coefficient of friction allows. Which is pretty much how older Subarus were IIRC correctly (50/50 power split).

Ok own up who's stuck an RS3 badge on their S3 :p

I'm not really against what people do, as long as it is tasteful. A guy on here modded his diesel to look like an RS3 and put the badge on too.

After-all, Tesco did put Beef on their burger packaging...... :undwech:

:D but in all honesty, his car did look very good, just as long as it's not done by Barry or any of his boys :ninja:

this one i believe, really does look fantastic

I don't think he was disappointed with his mapped 2ltr 200+ bhp TDI....... to be honest

I really like my S3 Hatch. I spec'd it as I wanted and I pay a reasonable amount for it a month. It's only 6mths old. I would love an RS3 and have been on the config tool for hours the last few days.

I don't think it is a case of haters, I think it is a case of people just being realistic with themselves and their finances. £40k+ is a lot of money to most people out there.

I am looking at changing a well spec'd S3 for a poverty spec (in comparison) RS3 and apart from the engine and the promise of that noise, I am seriously asking myself what else I am getting on top of my 8V S3?

The RS3 and the money involved is a real heart over head battle. Thankfully I have plenty of time to let that simmer...

Why?
Rs3 lookalike

Rs3 lookalike2

Now that takes effort - but why??????????

Needs racing stripes.

Hee Hee that tickled me; I'm really not sure why people do it, but a quick look on fleabay seems to show one company selling 'replica RS3s' - I love the way that they use the word 'Replica' - so far from the truth!

For me, nothing to do with diesels - or hate for that matter - I'm more amused by the phrase 'replica' which by most standard conventions is 'an exact copy of the original' (which it obviously isn't), and why people do it.

Now that takes effort - but why??????????

this is a cat c ....most people when they have an accident buy the car of the insurance company cheap then repair using the rs3 kit not oem but plastic replica kit at a minimal cost in the hope to make a profit on the sale due to the appealing looks of the rs3. There is no way anyone would use real rs3 oem parts or in order to make money they would need to start the listing for this at 10k. There is also a lot of people that can't afford the rs3 and replicas come along and buy not actually caring that the engine isn't the same as can all be about looks rs3 fans wouldn't know the difference seeing the car parked up seen it with many astra vxr's old bmw m3, golf r32 focus st and rs models and audi s3

Well I didn't buy the first RS3 as I simply wasn't that moved by it and looks wise, the old shape sportback never quite jelled for me. So, I bought a TTRS. But this new RS3? Way,better looking, faster, claimed better ride and based on how much better the new S3 is than the previous S3 (I owned one from new for three years), then it's job done for me. I'm just waiting to drive the new RS3 and then, if I am happy after that, I'm ordering one.

I didn't buy the new RS3 because, if I being brutally honest, I can't afford it :(

I don't think people are haters, I think what it is, is that it's 40k for an a3 that doesn't have many options,

I'm wanting an s3 personally, why don't I want the rs3 simple I can't afford it, I wish I could but I can't, but I don't hate on it, I like the car I just wouldn't pay 40k plus options for it, let's be honest when it's got the ceramics and buckets as well as everything else it's going to be 50-60k that is a lot of money for what it is

And would it pass the Grandchildren test?!

But lets look at it this way...Who needs an R in the title when you will be having 6 valves, a turbo and a supercharger? :D

IT ISN'T AN A3 ,IT ISN'T AN S3,IT ISN'T A 40K A3 WITH NOT MANY OPTIONS,

IT'S AN RS3 ,IT'S AN RS3,IT'S AN RS3,IT'S AN RS3

40K IS THE BASE PRICE FOR AN RS3 AND NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY OTHER A3 MODEL .
