Hi all, just bought an A4, I am new to Audi. Used to have a Bora but was rear ended and written off. everything feels good on the A4 apart from shaking engine at traffic light/ stationary. Tried turning air con on/off or depressing clutch, but no different. Shaking is not violent but can feel it.
Did a search and found something about engine mount sensor. I also found a hanging wire next to the engine.see pictures. Can anyone identified this wire? Will these be related?
Also, where is the OBD2 plug location? Thanks guys.

Thanks very much cannywingate. Mine only start shaking after it got up to operating temperature, only during stationary/ traffic light. The rev needle doesn't fluctuate though when it shakes. It's dead steady at 920rpm. My dangling wire is the one with the orange connector in the photos.

My money's on the duel mass clutch coming to the end of it's life.
Thanks mate. The guy I bought it from said he had the clutch replaced last year, suppose he will do the flywheel too? Will the vibration disappear when I depress the clutch if it is cause by the flywheel?

hello mate my money would be on the dm flywheel aswell but you never know. Been out in my car yesterday and forgot to look at the wire the last owner may have only relaced just the clutch plate only. The dm flywheel can work out expensive we have a 08 plate passat at work with 105000 miles on the clock and the flywheel shakes and rattles its face of but still goes strong so if you can live with it let it develop il try and remember to look at the wire today ya never know it may be somthing else

Sounds to me like your DMF too, I am on my third, it will only get worse and can damage the gearbox.
The engine mounts need doing on mine but not got around to it yet.

Thanks. Is there a definite way of finding out about the flywheel before chucking money in it? I meant not taking things apart but a simple way to test this.
Did you go for genuine part sidibear?

Thanks

It definitely sounds like it from your description, and if your mileage is over 60K then its almost a certainty.
I have the extended warranty on mine so it was done by Audi with only a £250 excess.
Second one failed 2 days after the 2 year guarantee expired, but the dealer helped me out by doing the gearbox oil change FOC.

It would help if you tell which engine you have and as above, maybe a solid flywheel, any chance of asking the previous owner?

Got the car from someone that doesn't really know about car so doubt it. It is a BRE engine 2.0 Tdi.

Can anyone help with checking the hanging cable I posted in my picture please?

I have searched online and another possibility is the alternator pulley clutch failure. This will result in vibration at idle. Tried to check yesterday the tensioner pulley seems a bit jumpy when the engine vibrate, not sure if this is normal.

My clutch is super smooth, no vibration first or second gear, no shaking on steering or gearstick when pulling off. No knocking. Hope it is not the flywheel.

My cheap code reader didn't pick up any codes. I am trying to find help with vcds. But I read that vcds lite is not compatible with Audi A4 B7, is this true?

hello vcds light is not compatable with the b7 model .the easyest way to check pulley is to remove belt and stop inside altenator from spinning and the pulley should still turn one way if not its siezed and needs replacing hope this helps
