Steering Rack - Options?

Hi all, my steering rack has sprung a leak so am looking to get it replaced.....what are my best options here? Buying a brand new one? Reconed? Risk it and go used? I am planning on keeping my car for the next few years :)
 
Ive just had the same issue on mine where one of thee tak pipes on the rack got a small hole in and leaked. We actually managed to change the metal pipe. Only to discover another problem in the rack. Anyhow I had a new rack supplied as a recon
 
Leon cupra r rack reconnect at 150 ish on ebay done the mod a few weeks ago steering is way better one of best mods to date if you have an a3 of course
 
Should have mentioned that I have an s3....so the quick steering is pretty much the same :p

If it's one of those small metal pipes on the rack they can get changed like I said @phil miller changed the top metal pipe on mine the other week. I had the cupra r rack fitted to my A3 but now I've put a new standard one back on for other reasons
 
If you're fitting it to an a3 though they'll charge you the surcharge as the one your returning won't match with part no's.
I emailed to check it was OK to return on from my S3 ad they're identical racks. But can't imagine them being happy about getting and a3 one sent in return.
 
I can change my username? Sweet! :D ....can anyone confirm if S3s have m14 or m16 tie rod ends as standard?

M16 should be the one for an S3

I'm watching the one @CMcKenzie linked above also as I need mine changed.

Just out of interest how many hours did it roughly take for people to get the rack changed on the S3?
 
Took me a morning, that was with fag/coffee breaks and fitting new rack Bush and tie rod ends.
 
Just confirm before I order....the tie rod ends are definitely M16 for BAM S3?
 
They were on my APY, like I said the best way is to measure them yourself, I can't be held responsible if they're a different size for what ever reason.

Ah okay, had a go at measuring them..seems pretty difficult...can someone provide a picture of what I'm exactly meant to be measuring :(
