I say grey because im not sure if it's blue or white! it does smell kinda like oil but haven't noticed the car using any. It's only very occasionally as well, a couple blips of the accelerator and it's gone.

Any ideas? I noticed a bit of mayo on the dip stick as well when i checked the oil on the weekend but i've quite a few short trips recently so put it down to that and gave it a good blast

head gasket mate so ill get it check if i was you before its too late!

I had the mayo look under my oil cap but it only appeared on short journeys and my oil cap was bust! Cheap fix and nothing to worry about.

Mine also has the smoke occasionally on tick over but again usually only seen on short journeys.

could be worn valve stem seals, mine used to do it and i added a little Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer and it stopped, obviously not a permanent fix but worked and that was two oil changes ago!
also changed oil to quantum that may have something to do with it, if your still running on that long life crap it could seep through easier, its thinner than quantum.

This is a slightly misleading statement as quantum also do longlife 5w30... I think you mean you switched to 5w40? Which is hands down the best oil choice for these engines!

I'm not sure what oil i've got in at the moment but it i have the bottle in the boot so i'll check tomorrow! (i know it's premium stuff that is 503.1 compliant just not sure on the manufacture) if i've got 5w30 in there then i'll dump it and stick some 40 in.

Im thinking it's stem seals, if it was head gasket i think it would be a lot more frequent, i had a little bit of smoke at 1 set of lights today, drove the 2 or 3 mins home and left it idling for a couple of mins to see if it would smoke again when i can have a proper look but it didn't want to play.

I only do around 5k a year at the most so hopefully the different oil will keep it going for a while.

Good luck pal, im in the same boat 3-4k a year, mine hasnt come back in 3k or more.
