Hi folks, 2.0 tfsi engine 2010 with 54k on clock, last long life regime audi service was at 43k, loud tapping/rattling noise from engine, dealer has told us it needs new engine and turbo. Quoted £10k Metal filings found in oil, although they were unable to specify where it had come from unless they stripped the engine down. Audi UK are reluctant to help as it was due next service in jan this year. Despite only having done 11k miles since owning it from July 2013. Anyone have any suggestions?

Unfortunately I can't see much of an alternative. Are you saying that the service indicator came up in Jan but that you ignored it? If so then as you are finding that means they aren't likely to help out, unfortunately.

Short of getting an independent inspection and it finding, somehow, that it is unrelated to the condition of the oil I think you are probably out of luck. Perhaps take it to an independent for a second opinion? I think it's a case of missing the service means they'll beat you over the head with that fact until you cough up or go away.

Correct me if I am wrong but Isn't it the same generation of TFSI engine which has no end of problems with pistons etc?

Almost certainly and, again, almost certainly would have been covered by at least a goodwill gesture (if not the complete cost) had the service been seen to. Assuming I've read it correct that the service indicator came on but was ignored for too long.

Yes although they deny any problems on a scale of which is actually the case! Despite being on audis long service regime which covers vehicles up to 2years or 19k miles between services, our vehicle has covered just 11k miles since the last service at 43k but because it is just a few weeks over the 2 year mark they are refusing to help! This is clearly a manufacturing issue with these engines and unsuspecting owners wether they purchase the car direct from audi or not, are left to pick up the pieces! Quite literally. Audi will not confirm what component has failed stating the engine would have to be stripped further to investigate and we would have to foot the bill. Their argument is that we should have gone to them with the oil consumption problem and that this may have prevented the problem from happening. Surely audi as the manufacturer had a responsibility to contact their customers?

Did you get this resolved at all? I couldn't see that you'd get any help but hope you've been able to come to an arrangement.

No help from audi and we've had to spend 4k for an engine rebuild.
