Hi all

Not been on here for a while. Just sold on my B7 and took delivery of my B8 a few weeks back.

Feels like a completely different animal to the B7, a lot more refined and not as involving to drive but build quality doesn't seem as good as the older model. Still more than happy with it though.

It's a 2009(59) A4 avant Sline 141 Tdi. I'm not sure what spec it is but don't see many around with these wheels and colour combo. Also has full leather interior and mmi 3G high. Very big improvement on the cloth and rnse in the b7 I had.

Sorry about the stock photo but here it is...

Oh if anyone knows what the wheels are then please let me know.

Welcome! Interesting that you find the B8 lower quality. I too moved from a B7 and felt it was a step up in quality. :) Enjoy your new car!

I think the main thing about the quality is the feel of the door closure. The b7 gave a nice "thud" as it closed but the b8 doesn't seem as solid in those terms. Maybe that's down to lighter materials, weight saving etc. Apart from that the materials used on the dash and panels are all on a par with the older model.

Defo enjoying ownership!

I did find one step down. The wiper arms on the B8 are a bit feeble. B7 had meaty ones.

Yeah and the fact that you have to put the wipers in the service position in mmi to clean underneath them is a bit naff too

I agree. The b7 had a nice thud but not as much as the b6. I think one thing will be they are trying to reduce weight and cost....like everything else in this world.

Not sure if you guys have avants but the boot floor and load covers seem to have a backward step too. The folding floor on the b7 was much more practical. The fact that the dog guard and load cover have to be removed separately and don't fold with the rear seats is annoying and nowhere near as practical as the b7 system.

A few niggles here and there but like I say overall I'm happy enough with it. I guess you just get used to certain things

Ying and Yang really.....the silver surround on the instrument panel is plain tacky and mines creaks occasionally...it would never have happened on the B7! And take a look at the boot lid - the B6/B7 had a fancy articulating hinge with a gas strut whilst the B8 has an el-cheapo gooseneck hinge with a spring.

On the plus side I agree the B8 is a lot more refined and it does feel a heavier and more substantial car. But as others have said some details let it down.
