Anyone else have any issues with their S3 saloon. I've owned mine since September 14. It's covered 4k miles. And is now being towed to an Audi garage to be fixed as it overheated. First sign was the red warning thermometer on the dash, then as I was trying to find a safe place to pull over ( travelled a further .5 of a mile) steam starts billowing out of the bonnet. Pulled over and the A A chap thinks it's a water pump and thermostat that's gone judging by the codes. Given the mileage, surely this shouldn't happen.

Welcome to the broken down S3 club - mine also went wrong last Wednesday, one year old SB with 8k on clock http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/sick-s3.241623/
Mine too is in the dealers awaiting analysis as to why - all I know from Audi Assist is that it is overfuelling (only serviced approx. 250 miles ago).

Water pump / loss of water has been experienced by others on here though, I'm sorry to advise.

Not good for what should be a quality car. Sorry to hear yours has gone wrong.

Just read your post. That sounds like a complete pia. Still on the tow truck being recovered. Hope you get yours sorted.

PIA is about right! Just one thing I found out though - if the dealer doesn't have a courtesy car for you, assuming you have been recovered by Audi Assist, Audi Assist will arrange one for you straight away - they said they'd try to find me another S3, I said don't bother, just get me something like an A3 / Focus for a few days, and now have a 1.4TFSI A3 until mine is fixed. Another S3 would have been nice, but doubt many rental places have one.

Good luck getting yours fixed also - this is def not the thing you expect from an brand such as Audi

Sorry to hear to hear about your issue

I collected my s3 the other week but forgot to ask about audi assist. I take it this comes as standard if you buy a new car as well as a used one? I don't seem to have any paperwork about it.

Thanks

Sorry to hear about the breakdown - unfortunately owning an Audi doesn't guarantee reliability, (I had to reject my original A3 8V after 7,000 miles after 3 new gearboxes and persistent electrical problems).

As far as I know, Audi Assist comes standard for 3 years with new vehicles. I think they have their own fleet of recovery vehicles but also partner with the AA.

If your car is declared off the road or undriveable, Audi Assist can recover your car to your chosen Audi Centre (and there is guarantee that the vehicle will be looked at within 48 hours). Audi Replacement Vehicles can then arrange a replacement car for up to 48hrs usually. (They don't guarantee spec-for-spec but will 99% of the time get an Audi through Europcar or Enterprise who manage the Audi UK fleet - as I understand it).

They do try to get you roughly like-for-like, (i.e. if you have a A3 Sportback S-Tronic with Nav, they will try and find you a 4 or 5 door Audi auto with Nav).

Yes it does and no I don't have any paperwork either. It's as M_D_O_London says as well, the 48 hours though is on working days, so for mine the second working day is Tuesday, so they have until end Tuesday to diagnose.

Whilst they do try to get you like for like - realistically there are no many similar cars to the S3 - or in fact S3's for hire, so it's a bit of a case of being practical. I just said I wanted something similar like an A3 or a Focus, and I got an A3

Vw assist tender out breakdowns to enterprise and Europe car and whoever can offer the best car gets the deal. It goes like for like, make for make, other vag cars.

Funnily enough I saw a 64 plate Golf R being recovered the other week just outside Corfe Caste in Dorset and that was billowing smoke from the bonnet too.

Mighty odd - but then thought maybe it had just been thrashed too much. The owner looked about 15 and I noted it was a lease plan supplied car from the number plates. It did not look it had been looked after at all from external appearances.

Wonder if there is some larger issue?

Perfect thanks for the info guys, I will store the audi assist number in my phone just in case :)

I think there is a little credit card sized thing in with the user manual with all the info on...I'll have a look when I go outside.

My card followed about 3 weeks later. I'd you do have trouble just call the normal AA number, tell them it's an Audi and the reg and you should be fine.

You should get a pack through the post with a card for your wallet. Mine took about 4 weeks from collecting the car. I didn't need to do anything, so Audi must sort this automatically. Have also been getting a very nice Audi magazine.

Yes. With regards to the audi assist. It was in the tax disc holder when I picked up the car. I had completely forgotten about it when I had the issue. Luckily as I was standing by the bonnet waiting for the steam to clear I noticed the number on the tx disc holder.

Just waiting for the hire car. They've said that they can get me something larger by 4pm. I have a roof box jammed full of stuff as we were visiting relatives over the weekend. The initial offer of a Fiat 500, or Fiesta were politely declined. I don't care what the car is as long as we can get all the stuff into it.

Yep it's in the folder with the books...not sure if like the others I got it via the post with a welcome pack!?!? If you do it will be quick, I've only had the car just over 3 weeks.

Yeah I got that the other day, the first thing I thought was "This is quality paper" :D Talking about quality, I called at my local Audi this morning for a touch up pen/paint. Yet again great service, I was greeted by a friendly receptionist who called the parts person and told them what I required, she then took me to the parts office, before I could sit down he was there with the paint! I had the smallest of marks in the paint and it's an exact match...way better than ones I've had in the past which have always been a slight shade out. I just can't see me driving anything else from now on!

My first Audi and the reliability thing is there in the back of my mind all of the time. 180 miles in and I had an emissions warning. Dealership were great and they fitted a new manifold.......said they had only seen this sort of thing once before and maybe a dodgy sensor. 1300 miles in now and so far so good. Love the car and providing it remains reliable, I can see my love affair with Audi lasting for some time. The car oozes quality and puts a smile on my face whenever I open the garage door.

This is true for later Audi's but for one's like mine which are just on a year old, that was at the time that Audi were swapping from the RAC to the AA to provide cover, so you didn't get a card - the number is on the back of the tax disc holder, or if you want it its 0800 699 9999.
