This came on, on my way home tonight. Literally 10 minutes ago. Car runs like always, oil and water checked, no weird noises.

3 years ago I had this same problem, and it was the crank sensor. Haven't had problems since.

Am I relatively safe to drive to work in the morning?

Its an A3 1,8T AUM engine @ 170.000 kilometers.

With the lack of other advices here is mine.

If its not flashing than it shouldn't be to bad. Could be just an emissions system or some sensor. This is from other forums and general internet.

I personally wouldn't without scanning for codes first as it could be a number of things. If you can, use public transport and get the car scanned first. And remember im no expert :)

I don't know the english word, but turns out it was one those ratty plastic hoses for that system that warms up the cat on cold starts. It's leaking. Nothing critical I suppose.

Secondary air injection than. Many people remove the whole thing. But still like tuffty sad code ta tell for shore.

Post the fault code please...

Don't have the fault code. I found a local shop that does VW cars with VCDS and he said that's what the fault code was. Secondary air injection had a leak which caused a Cat error. He did something on the laptop and a pump on the car started, and you could hear and feel there was a pretty big leak. He deleted the error and now the light is off. Told me a new hose is cheap and is easy to install so he wasn't even gonna try and sell me the labor.

I have a Jetex cone on my car, so the silly thing is just flopping around. I was wondering if i can pass inspection if i remove the whole thing. A also, if a leak can cause a fault code what happens if you remove the entire system?

Yeah I should have written the code down..

I have wanted to buy an ebay cable for a long time, just so I can actually see whats going on, not change any parameters. Can anyone recommend any decent ones?

Secondary air would throw an incorrect flow fault if it was leaking... doesn't affect the CAT... SAI is for emission control on cold start

This is why posting the codes helps as this thread is now fairly pointless without it... has no context or real meaning...

CAT related codes are normally to do with efficiency which is what the post CAT lambda is for...

Ok, so I plugged it in the car.

It shows errors under "ENGINE".

Codes: 16804, 17705

Theres a little list with codes listed but they dont show up in the list.

Im assuming one of them is something about the boost dropping. No idea what the other one is.

Does anyone have a proper list of codes?
