My 1.8 has been giving us some grief of late. It stated doing it once or twice maybe once a month where after it had started, the key light would flash and engine turn off. It would always restart after a second attempt.

Recently this has gotten worse. It can sometimes stall 3 or 4 times on the trot before starting properly.

It ALWAYS starts, just sometimes we have this issue. Some days it will start each and every time no bother.

What would cause this fault?

Getting the car prepared to sell so would hopefully like to try and resolve this.

Cheers.

Try turning the ignition on, wait for key light to extinguish, then start the engine.

Its usually caused by a faulty reader coil or faulty wiring to the reader coil.

they arent coded, but they're part of the ignition barrel i think, which is obviously keyed to your key.
