Hi all. Currently driving a 600hp Supra as a weekender and a 2003 1.9tdi Quattro A3 as my daily... So as you can tell I'm in need of some neat ideas on how to boost the BHP on my lil' A3 to make it a bit more interesting to drive! I'm brand new to this forum so I'm hoping some of you can give me some ideas on what to upgrade, e.g bleed valve, turbo, ecu... Anything decent which doesn't break a £1000 budget and can add a good few BHP to the number :)

Cheers guys!

Aww i love supras, my fav car as i was growing up.
A quick few ideas: dpf removal & decat + decent intake followed by a map should release a few more ponies and give you plenty of extra torques to play with.

Also might be worth checking out a mk4 golf site or group on fb, seem to have more people tuning the diesels on there than we do with a3s

A remap is the way to go, You will probably find somebody who will do it for £200-£250. A 130bhp will map to around 175 bhp and will be a completely different car to drive.
Where abouts are you in the country ?
Karl.

I had a remap done on my 2003 1.9tdi Quattro when I bought 18mths ago at awesome gti, they had a deal on via ebay, think I paid just £150 to take it to 170bhp, like you said it makes it a different drive altogether ,just having to replace the turbo now tho as its started whistling and throwing up an overboost code and going into limp mode when you drive it hard
so new turbo and pipes etc I reckon....anyone know of a decent turbo refurb place ???

If it's throwing up overboost fault codes it's likely the VNT mechanism is coked up or sticking or there is an issue with the N75. If it's an N75 issue putting a new turbo on won't fix the issue and the new turbo will then be overboosting.

hi karl, thanks for the reply...I tried the usual mr muscle sketch which did make a difference but after removing the charge pipes theres loads of thick sticky oil inside and the turbo is whistling like mad so im going to replace it anyway I think, if it still thows the code after it must a sensor problem !

If you fit a new turbo and don't so anything else log the specified and actual boost when the new turbo is fitted just to see if the N75 is controlling boost as it should. If there is another issue your replacement turbo may not last too long.

here in Portugal a lot of people had tunned that engine
decat and remap (in portugal peolple with experience do that for 150€) and you will have 190hp
if want more a bigger turbo (2260 from bmw 330d our hybrid) and you have 240hp

GTB1756vk Turbo, FMIC and a map will make you 230+hp and 350ft/lbs all day long

Hi Karl. I'm in Cambridge, but would be willing to drive as far as necessary to find a place who will do a remap. £250 is a very reasonable price! What about an exhaust? I've been wanting to upgrade for a while now but haven't the foggiest when it comes to German cars

Exhausts don't get you much of an improvement with the diesels. You can gut the cat by smashing out the inards and the rear silencer can be restrictive, I would replace it with a straight pipe and turn down.
As mentioned above a turbo upgrade to a GTB1756VK is the best match for standard injectors. You would need a new manifold, I believe this seller on Fleabay does a GTB1756VK mated to the correct manifold with a vacuum conversion.

Along with a FMIC upgrade and suitable map you are looking at 230bhp and a very useable daily car.
Without upgrading the injectors you won't get any more than this.
You may also require an uprated clutch depending on the state of your existing one.
I don't know of any any good mappers in that part of the world. I am sure there are some maybe you could create another post on the general thread seeing if people can recommend a tuner in your area.

Thanks for the help buddy, I was looking at an exhaust upgrade purely for the sound, not for a power increase! Unfortunately I'm not really willing to throw that much money at it on turbos and manifolds etc when really that money should be spent on a suspension overhaul... But I'll definitely go for a remap to get to 175bhp and a full decat exhaust too

Sorry to barge in here dude but can you point me to some good supra forums as I'm looking at buying one his year may aswell finally get the car I've always wanted after 450hp ish so you may be of help if you know of any or where to look for a decent one that won't break when getting home :D

Absolutely, head over to mkivsupra.net as it's the best one about IMO. You have to pay like a tenner for 3 years membership but it is well worth it as you get access to the for sale section and Supra classifieds. Just make sure you set yourself a good 10-15k though!

I have a blend remap booked for Thursday. Only reason for not going for a power remap is it will just put too much stress on the clutch, flywheel, injectors etc and since all my money's going into my Supra I'm just going to keep it fairly basic. A question though, where is the re circulation valve located on this car? I'm pretty sure it's ******** as it sounds like a dump valve now haha, no thank you

tdi don't have a recirc valve, as there is no throttle plate, if you have a dump valve sound its probably a boost leak
