Howdy,

Title speaks for itself. Test drove one back in June, loved it, want it.

This would be my first 'dream car' purchase. However I'm looking to buy used and save up to buy it in 2 maybe three years.

Does anyone know what sort of cost these cars are looking to be after that time period? I'm not in the fortunate position of being able to buy brand new.

The GMFV value for a bog standard 3 door is a hair under £15k (link). I would think you could pick one up for about £18.5k with a few options from a main dealer once it hits 3 years old.

I see, not too bad! I seem to change my cars every 1-2 years as they're not really a car I'm that bothered about. Can't wait to get my hands on the S1!

I think by looking at used values the s1 is going to be a sound investment and will hold its money extremely well.
I think in a couple of years even a 14 plate will be still be worth £17k.
My mates in the trade and a s1 he told me was much sought after.

Yeh Audi's seem to hold their value for a damn long time. I guess if they don't release an RS1 or another S1 it'll never plummet in price.

It'll be worth the wait either way! I'll try and be patient :)

according to the local car magazine, S1 retains 59% of its value after 3 years...but of course "bargains" can be found when the time comes.

I'm torn between an S1 and a MINI JCW. JCW sounds better (in my opinion), and it's cheaper at the minute (as it's older). Might be a good interim car as in all honesty I probably won't be able to afford an S1 for 3-4 years. Don't want a ragged base spec example either.

Each to their own I suppose. I looked at the JCW in both hatch and coupe format but neither rocked my world. Actually the Fiesta ST or and older Focus RS were better options for me.

Not a huge Ford fan in all honesty so they're off my list. The JCW just sounds epic, plus I've never had a mini so that appeals too. Ideally I'd walk into an Audi showroom and buy an S1 but unfortunately my pockets aren't that deep to justify the monthly costs! Esepcially as I do about 25,000 miles a year, there just aren't any good finance options for someone that does that kind of mileage.

the outgoing jcw is a great car with lots of toys and a great following if you want the social side of ownership.the latest version is not for me hence the s1

Do most of you guys get the s1 on pcp or. lease? What kind of deals are people getting?

Got mine on pcp £200 a month, final fee in 4 years of £9800.
like the mini but prefer the s1
Not a ford fan tbh.
I got about £1700 off list price but not any of the extras.
Did put a big deposit as I wanted lower monthly payments.
If you do 25k miles wouldn't you prefer a diesel that's unless someone else is paying the fuel bill.

A lot!
My renault clio in part exchange think it was £9500.
I know it's not the usual way to do a pcp but it works for me as I wanted lower monthly payments.

Damn that's a fair sized deposit! I'd probably put no more than a 10% deposit down to make it viable, I can afford up to 300 a month.

Not meant to say 25,000 it's 15,000 but diesels are costing me a lot

Got it wrong final payment is £8200.

Try and go brand new if you can mate, I'm only saying that as interest rates etc are lower :) I bought my S1 as a weekend toy on PCP, but I know the boy very well at the garage and for an S1 there is just under a 7 month waiting list for new ones so should hold its value very well :) im £395 a month with a £1000 deposit and £14k at the end of my 4 years, but I doubt I'll trade it in after it, unless they release an RS1 :)

That's a pretty good deal! I would prefer to get brand new, only issue I have at the minute is I purchased my current car a year ago via a bank loan.

It's got another 3 years on it so I can't really get rid until I've paid it all off :/ So in that sense I'm kind of stuck until the loan runs out! :/

Apparently the Mini Cooper S is the best mini made so far, but some don't like the look of the new front. Probably a better choice if you are doing over 250,000 mile a year. Would love to see you to get a S1, so we can see the high milege driving reports on S1.

lots of existing mini owners will be leaving the fold imo .Mini are going away from the original idea of a small fast fun car interior is great but just getting to big and ugly externally.
