Recently i put my car on a well known site, testing the water.

I have been inundated from legit buyers, scammers, and the usual divs.

Yesterday a potential buyer came to see the car, all the usual checks and questions only to be met with can i come tomorrow with my Dad hes the one who knows about cars ??, ( so why didnt you just wait until he could make it ) anyhow i agreed he could come back the following day with his so called expert lol.

Today i receive a text say he had forgot !! the banks were closed and if he could again come today with his master mech pmsl, i replied saying wait until tomorrow saves waiting each others time. He insisted so i agreed.

So another viewing, 10 mins checking the history no joke, which may i add is all legit and above board, i got fed up and said he was more than welcome to call the Audi specialist that had carried out the servicing including changing the cam belt and water pump as per. He started banging on about it should have been replaced at least 3-4 times by now. This is where i was growing extremely tired of the facade, i asked why he though so, only to be told that due to age 2002-2003 it should be changed every 4 years, i reminded the so called expert that the car only has 87k legit on the clocks and that Audi only recommend its due at 60-80 if i recall.

He insisted that even though it had low miles for age it should have been done as many times and that it would be due again, i laughed and said i know of no car nor person who would do this, and that many many cars are lucky if they are changed at 100k if at all.

I kinda get what he was saying but am sorry no one would have had their belt changed 3-4 times on a 87k car.

So we went for the test drive, no issues at all as expected, he then asked if i would take £500 off the asking even though i had no ONO or offer on my ad, now it was time to wrap it and end the viewing which i did abruptly lol.

Am sick of all the usual idiots and divs when selling a car , god give me strength.

the cam belt should be changed every 70k or 5 years whichever comes first as an absolute max, , By now i'd expect it to have had at least 2 changes and be due next year or so as a bare minimum

why would it be due next year if its a 2002-03 on 87k, it would have to have been a 2001, and i will never be raking up the miles either.

It would be due 2017 unless i raked up 53k by next year, it was done at 67k

gimmie back my BMW chain driven lol

Chain's don't last forever and either do the tensioners. I think 3 times in 12-13 years is not unreasonable, but 4 times is over the top. Personally I change them ever 4 years. I think people will be thinking the belt will need to be done in the next year or so, so will try and knock you down on price.

but it was done only 2 year ago at 67k, by my reckoning its still got 3 years unless I hit the advised 70k on that belt before the 5 years

i would love to know how many times people on here have changed their belt etc on cars reaching 100k which many A4 B6 and even B7 seem to have, anyone ??

Miles or years for cambelt.......whichever comes soonest.

It is recommended 4 years or 40k miles at the VWG HQ when I worked there as it had changed from the 5 year 60k miles due to premature breakages.

Mine has just turned 63k miles (2004 year) and had two cambelt changes from new. First was at the 5 year mark and had 35k miles then I had it done 4 years later as the miles was not reached but the age of the belt did.

My one's (2004) just turned 70k and I changed it for a second time about a month ago. According to a service book it was first done at 36k.

I've done 163k now on a 02, and on my 4th belt and to be honest I would rather knock you on the price and do the belt myself.
I won't put mine on the open market when the time comes to chop it against a B8 black edition I'll just let the dealer deal with all the bell ends.

and my B6 at 62k miles is on it's third belt - at eleven years old.
It's like oil changes, cheaper than the risk/cost of the possible problems !
