hi all,

Ive just done a deal on a new S3 at Aberdeen Audi.

Currently own a RR Evoque ( tidy looking car but poor build quality) and before that an M135i (epic car but not 4wd).

Im getting a Sepang blue sportback with comfort pack, upgraded sound system, red calipers and free rubber mats. Car is already made, just awaiting delivery to dealer, should collect in around 3 weeks! ( ****** private plate).

Cant wait to get back into something nippy again!

Car has the silver nappa leather seats although not sure about the headlining....hopefully thats black but will check with dealer on sunday.......

Look forwards to adding my tuppence worth over the coming months!

Why was the M135i slow off the mark then lol!?

I like the silver headlining, we have 2 S3's in the family, both silver leather, one with black and one with silver headlining. I have black on mine but I actually prefer the other one with the roof

Thanks for the welcome!

The Evoque build quality is much poorer than the S3.
There are too many cheap plastics that vibrate very annoyingly!
I had never ending rattles from the hatch area and around the drivers seat belt mount point.
If you look at the Evoque forums, you will find lots of people with build quality issues, not good on such an expensive car. I think LR have taken their eye off the ball as they are churning the things out so quickly and things are getting missed.
We went for a long run (8hrs) last weekend ( down to Hull for the Chelsea game) and I found the seat to be uncomfortable, that n the rattles confirmed my descision to move it on. There are also issues with things like the satnav and sound system, incredibly slow and clunky.

We test drove several Golf Rs - found them almost exactly the same as the S3 but the S3 interior feels much classier. Surprisingly, the Golf R 3 door felt much stiffer on the road than the 5 door. I preferred the 5 door feel.

Hadnt considered the S3 as I thought Audi were a bit too pricey. However, we popped in past Aberdeen Audi to see what deal could be done and were offered a superb deal, so after a test drive of their demo car, we signed up!

As I said, we had an M135i before the Evoque and that was incredibly rapid- dare I say it felt faster than the s3? Problem was the handling. The standard suspension is way too uncontrolled and poorly damped. At "high" speed on the A Roads up here, the BMW was quite scary the way it bounces along. We much prefer the 4wd controlled stability of the VW/Audi. Also, the 135i has looks only a mother could love! However, the BMW was very well nailed together with a very comfy seat- felt similar to the S3 seat in support level.

The only thing to decide now is whether to pay and get the satnav enabled.....

Welcome to the family :)

Thought Aberdeen had maybe reached its max quota for Sepang but obviously not ;)

Hey welcome to the forum, I'm sure you're going to be delighted with your S3.

Hi and welcome to the forums :)

The only thing to decide now is whether to pay and get the satnav enabled.....

I didn't bother on mine, for the amount of times I use it and for the time I'm going to own the car I was just going to buy a cheap Tomtom...However, last week I put a postcode into my iPhone's standard Google maps and was using that to get to my location, I was surprised when the music was muted and the direction came through the cars speakers from the phone...I was expecting it to come via the phone speaker only! It took me straight to the door of where I was going...so for me that will do for the times I use it :)

I've also downloaded a free sat nav app which stores the maps on your phone so that there is no need for any data usage/signal on your phone https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/navmii-gps-uk-roi-navigation/id391334793?mt=8 yet to try that in the car though.

Good satnav info, cheers mate!

Has anyone fitted a dashcam? Ive searched but cant find a definitive answer for the new s3.

Ive got a drive pro 200 which plugs into the aux socket and needs ignition live.

Is there an aux socket in the glove box? Is it ignition live? Any advice appreciated!

Finally, has anyone fitted mudflaps? I see they are available but £90 for all 4!!
Im looking to fit fronts only to help keep the sides of the car clean....

Can't comment on the S3 being quicker than the m135 I yet, as haven't had the S3 long enough to give it any decent runs, but reckon, they will be quite similar. In fact in anything but the dry, the s3 should be quicker.

Know what you mean on the M135i it likes to get sideways too! Feel much safer in the S3 and its a nicer place to be for sure.

No problem and yes I have a Mio MiVue 538D dashcam which I plug directly into the cig lighter. It was a pig to hide the wire behind the trim, as the trim is fitted that well/tight! I basically got it under the headliner and down the rubber in the door behind the glove box and in the cig lighter. Does the job I want it to, on when key is turned and of when key is out!

The only wire showing it a few inches from the headliner, something solid was preventing me getting it under! so I didn't force it, and a few inches where it hooks over the side of the console. The rest is hidden behind the glove box/rubber door trim and behind the A pillar trim.

I just took some pics so you can see......

Hope that answers your question :)

Lol, i just misread, def a bit further north to the Granite city. :) x

Collected this morning.....
Superb service service from Aberdeen Audi. Not a swirl mark to be seen. Car was ready to go with few last minute additions all done as promised.....
Free rubber mats and mudflaps and iphone 6 lead.
Very impressed with the car, feels like top quality after the Evoque!
Got home, washed, clay barred and collinited.....and removed rear mudflaps.....not very nice!

First impressions.....more controlled ride compared to the m135i I had....not quite as quick and not as nice engine sound......but more refined and quiet at speed.....very happy!

Any idea of the voltage if I do it this way? I think my dashcam needs usb type voltage (3v?) but if I tap into the fag lighter fuse wont that put out 12v?

Any advice appreciated....

I was told carpet mats included on the S3, why "free" RUBBER! mats?

Just prefer them...they dont wear as much and are so easy to clean......

When I did the dealt the last minute I got them to throw in mats/flaps....salesman said yes, then admitted it already came with mats, so he would give me rubber ones as well!

Rubber ones fitted, rear mudflaps removed!

Glad you've confirmed that the car came with mats though. £40k for a car that didn't come with fitted carpet mats would not be amusing!

Very nice. I WANT MINE NOW!!

I'm with you. First week in September collection didn't seem far away when I placed my order, now seeming an eternity especially seeing some of these beautiful collection pics!

I used this and this:

I bought these to power my cam via usb, it drops it from 12v to 5v which is what my camera (and most devices) take.

You should double check that it is definitely 3v that yours take.
