Jeff's S4

Enjoy the moment! Mine is still a couple of months away...

I'd be interested in impressions about damper control - if it makes a big different to ride quality on poor roads I might have to revise my spec... :(
I don't have it and find the standard suspension fine. So if you're worried it'll be too harsh, don't be.

Jeff I've never seen a Tornado Grey B8 so look forward to seeing it.

For me the adjustable dampers justifies it as a 'family car' & so justifies it to my wife!! I had a sportback in the past with the s line suspension and she hated the ride so it was a no brainer. As OF says - massive difference & love having the choice.

When I spec'ed my S4 I wasn't able to spec ADS without adding damper control at the same time

Had a play with configurator and it seems if you spec. the tech pack with ADS you don't have to have damper control

Doesn't bother me too much as I personally don't have any use/need of the tech pack

I thought it was the other way round. Damper control (or sports diff or dynamic steering) requires ADS. It says that you don't get ADS "individual" mode unless you have MMI Navigation, which sounds bizarre.

Decided I'll stick with 18" wheels and no damper control though. The S4 I tested was like that and the ride was "firm but fair"!

I might have just got it the wrong way round, or its was the way I imputed into the cofig

Agrree. Does seem bizarre that you have to have the MMI nav / tech pack to have the individual setting on ADS

Yeah can confirm that's true. I have ADS but no MMI hence no individual mode. Also speccing sports diff made ADS mandatory. I'd already added ADS then updated the order with sports diff later so didn't matter.

David my S4 is actually less harsh than my B7 S Line was so can understand where you are coming from.

The kind sales lady at Bexley Audi allowed me to sneak out with a colour plaque of Tornado Grey. Here it is, set against the Quartz Grey of my current B7.

So many different reflections and light angles, it tells me nothing other than that they're similar!

@jdp1962 - Very nice Jeff. I likey a lot :thumbs up:

It reminds me of sphere blue metallic that was around when I ordered my ibis white B8 A4 in 2009

Once you've had the ADS you wouldn't want a car any other way. The roads are ***** round here, so great for comfort mode doing school runs or on motorways, dynamic for the see you later any other car drive :)

Hi Jeff! Welcome to the B8 section. I seem to recall when I left the B7 section you were going to get a Jaguar XF. :) You won't be disappointed in the S4. I have a black saloon and am very happy with it. Some quick stuff:

I got GAP insurance via ALA. Much cheaper than the dealer so possibly get a quote from them in addition to the company mentioned above.

I wouldn't go for the Autoglym, definitely go the detailer route. Much better results/products.

Lots of S4 threads on here lately so will give you something to read over the next 3 months. You never know, your car might be early. Mine turned up on it's provisional build date so was about 3-4 weeks early.

Our gap is with ALA too, seems a good price

Just had an email from Bexley Audi to say our car is currently showing as build week 24. I'm assuming build weeks start from January, so that presumably means mid-June. Does that sound right?

Yes. Week 24 is week commencing 8th June. So you'd probably take delivery in early July.

@jdp1962 - Nice one! :thumbs up:

Only 4 weeks behind me buddy :p:D

Just had another email back from Bexley Audi, saying BW 24 is last week of June.

I've got BW20 & thats commencing 8th June, so yes, BW 24 is w/c 29th June :thumbs up:

Why can't those pesky, left-wing, lazy, German trade unionists get on and build our cars, dammit?!

One more sleep until I collect my S4 BE Saloon.:)
Got a Daytona Grey with the following waiting at Poole Audi ........

ADS
Damper Control
Sport Diff
Adaptive Light
Foldy Mirrors
Tech High
Leather Door Inserts
Heated Seats

Went in this evening to sign the finance docs......and sat and watched a guy having his S3 saloon unveiled !
I ummed and erred about the super sport seats....but as others couldn't justify/stretch to the 1.4K. Hopefully
I won't regret that........

Will take some pics tomorrow at the dealers to share...now you don't see it now you do :)
Hoping getting in the S4 will take the pain of walking away from my TT tomorrow !
So come on StuBill, how did it go?

LOL, Scotty beat me to it.
Went well.......as indeed does the S4 :)
A bit of adjustment coming from an EA888 TFSI quattro TT, as the S4 weighs about twice as much. It was never going to be as agile, but it is certainly impressive and I can really feel the sport diff doing it's thing under fast cornering. I have gone for the more progressive running in approach.....not crazy, but exploring the engine range right from the showroom. Time will tell :)

@StuBill I mostly took it easy but had the odd blast. Seems to have done no harm. Indeed there was another thread a while back about the odd blast being good for things. Might look for it in a bit.

Have you had a "woah, really?!" moment at the speedo yet? :)

@scotty76 Yes !
As others have commented in the past the charged engine is very deceptive.......no shove in the back turbo, just speed, speed, and more speed :) I have a sweet little LH roundabout exit onto a slip road to join the M27/A31 on my way home. Giving the TT full beans on the paddles I would join the carriageway around 77mph (spoiler up). The same in the S4 at half throttle, and I had to back off due licence ending concerns :)

What's this reference I've just read to "a proper dipstick"? I'm presuming it's not a reference to Rodney Trotter.

Probably no bad thing. I've never owned an Audi yet on which I could get a clean dipstick reading.

It's a bit of a holy war. Some swear you need the real thing. I haven't bothered. There seemed no consensus.

How many days in a week for you?? :) Anyhoo, I'm seriously confused now. My car is BW21, which I was told was 18th May, followed by the delivery/prep time of an extra 3-4 weeks. :(

BH/jdp1962 : Maybe the dates you have are for expected delivery, rather than when the car is actually built?

Let's hope so. It's only been five days but I've yet to wake up later than 5am, and that's with the clocks going forward!

Mine was 3 weeks from build to dealers (and it sat at Sheerness for 6 days awaiting transport), then a day to PDI it, if that helps.
The dealers will naturally take longer at new reg time due to numbers.
Also, I think geography has a factor in it too....the ship goes to more than one port, the transporter goes to more than one dealer.
