8V VCDS Mods

Hmmm, not sure on the warranty - I can't imagine Audi being too pleased about it but most mods are difficult to detect unless you go looking for them also some are more obvious than others.

I had the change made to my MMI system to allow the choice of default distance on the ACC by my dealer connecting my car to the computers at Audi AG on a 'After Sales Evening" they run every once in a while. There was no charge for doing this. I can only assume that as it's something that can be done by a dealer there would be no warranty problem if you do it yourself. The only difference is that mine is now on the Audi database as having been done.

This is relevant, because, if you make numerous VCDS changes yourself - if you car goes in for servicing and they do connect it up to Audi AG for what ever reason, eg: updates - you will lose all your changes on that module, or all modules.

No big deal, you can just change everything again - but - if there is a warranty issue with that particular module, and you've made "unauthorised" changes - there might be a discussion on honouring warranty.

I've been playing to get my tpms installed and now realised I hadn't got my warning tire light on the cluster. Now I have. ☺

However I'm still struggling with the long code. Every time I change the two figures it rejects it. The car says there is a fault on the hold assist, steering and hand break. I don't have hold assist. What confuses me is the last 3 digits. Everyone is on '608' and I'm on '805'

Anyone else gone in for service and had all of their VCDS changes removed? I'm guessing they must have done a FW upgrade on mine or something as all the changes have been reverted!

Sorry, FW???
I guess SW means software no?
I went months ago and asked if there was any update and they said i had a brakes update. So i suppose next time i go to get my revision done they'll connect the cable and revert everything.
And I hate the fact that I have more than 25 mods...

They are all from the stemei page. Bad thing the ones I did are in a notepad in Spanish.

First of all, please admins read this.
Why is there a sticky with VCDS tittle in it but has no information in it, but THIS THREAD right here, the one that has all the codings is kind of getting hidden after all the posts.

Here is the Notepad file i have in spanish.
I dont think theres going to be much trouble to understand the codings.

This thread links from that sticky.

Back in the day, there was 1 VCDS thread

All the mods and coding were put into that thread, but over time, discussions were also had in that thread. This made it very difficult to sort out the actual mods, from the discussions.

So the thread was split into 2 - Coding, and Discussions.

This thread is the result of the Coding, but as you can see, over time, more and more discussion has crept into this thread - making the coding and mods hard to find again.

See this for the original explaination:

In the MMI you can enable the car to open it's windows with the key FOB. This has been a feature I've been enabled with VCDS for years on other cars. Only thing that's odd to me is that it's not the opposite nor is the opposite option available. I would have thought closing the windows with the key would have been an option if caught in the rain or something. Maybe disabled for safety, who knows.

Anyone see a VCDS option for key FOB window closing? Also, rain closing using the rain sensor would be cool too.

I can open and close mine with the fob. Came like that standard.

Hi everyone. Im looking into having the option to completely disabling traction control through vagcom. In ECS OFF setting, theres still some action from the traction control wich limits off the line acceleration. I know the GTI guys have done it succesfully. Ive been going through the abs module and theres a setting for ASR that asks for a 1 to 3 digit number. Anyone done this?

Could anyone provide a step by step instruction on how to get the reverse parking sensor graphic to be enabled via vcds? I.e. What menus and changes are needed. It's for an 8v s3.

Thanks,

Had a few mods completed after I first collected my car but they were wiped during it's first service last week. Grabbed myself a VCDS cable and finally had some time to complete a good number of configurations yesterday using information from here and other forums, including:

  • TPMS
  • Rear DLR's On
  • DLR's Off with Hand Break on (Front and Rear)
  • Turn Signal adjusted from 3 to 5
  • Activated External Lighting Menu
  • Ignition Warning Off
  • Needle Sweep
  • Lap Timer
  • Oil Temperature in all DIS Display
  • Disabled Seat Belt Warning
  • Visual Parking Display
  • Acoustic Alarm on Lock / Unlock
  • Activated Acoustic Alarm Menu

These were all completed with no issues via VCDS Beta 15.3.0, however there are still a good number of labels in German. I was first coding with VCDS 14.10 but that release seemed to have channel not available issues when it came to DLR related coding.

Am in the process of compiling a spreadsheet for all of the above mods and am more than willing to share the information once completed.

I am currently looking to add the coding for Coming Home / Leaving Lights (Automatic) and decided to do a little research before just jumping in. As my dealer did me a good deal on my car from the showroom floor I did not get to place an order with all the bits I would have wanted and don't have the Auto Dimming Interior Mirror but on removing all the plastic covers from the windscreen I can see that I have a sensor installed within the bonded mount (4). Am guessing that this is indeed an ambient light and humidity sensor...

While digging around in VCDS I found the following:

https://flic.kr/p/qTemQh

Was wondering if anyone here would know if it's related to the above sensor or indeed a different one?

@DJAlix I am really looking forward to your spreadsheet. I was just about to post a request for these mods to be aggregated in one place/table to make it easy to find. Very useful post

Hey Nick, I see you had an m135i, so did I !

Id be interested to hear how you find the s3 compared to it?

Hi there. It's probably too early to say as haven't driven the S3 too hard yet. However it looks better, nicer inside, draws more attention (not always a good thing) is more comfartable, the tech is better, feels more modern and was cheaper to insure and probably run (not by much)

Driving moderately fast it feels safer, in the wet today it was planted and seems even more effortless than the 135i and less dramatic. It feels nippier off the mark when driving normally. The 135i needed a good bit of throttle to keep up with the traffic, whereas the S3 just seems to glide away from things without trying in any drive mode.

Normal driving the smaller engine just feels better than the 3.0L, especially in stop start traffic.

The tech pack and Audi connect is good although haven't got the My Audi working yet.

Real test will be in the next few days and weeks when I get chance to gradually push it a bit harder. Weather has been bad and I've been feeling rough since collection.

I can already say I definately won't regret the swap which is great.

When do you get yours?

Is there a VCDS trick that automatically activates the EHB (electric hand brake) when switching the engine off ?

Not spent much time looking at any of the "EHB" and related settings to be honest as most of the labels are German only so hard to tell. Will see if I can dig anything up later today.

A request if I may...

Was wondering if someone here with both the Auto Lights (Xenon Plus PX4 w/ Automatic Range Control) and Coming Home / Leaving Lights options from factory could post up the Central Electronics (Address 9) section from their scan? Am trying to work out which light sensor and light switch variants I need to retrofit.

When do you get yours?

Mines 2/3 weeks away. Its sat in a dock somewhere waiting to get on a boat!

Really looking forward to it, all of your comments are exactly what I wanted to hear. As Ive said previously, the M135i was a great car but too much if a handful at speed. I want something that shifts but feels safe doing it!

Do you have light sensor?
Xenons?
There is a way to activate coming/leaving home manually.

Have Xenons, but only have a Humidity Sensor at the moment. Changing this out for a combined Rain and Light Sensor looks pretty simple. Problem is I need to know which variant I need, a 559A or 559B (currently have the basic 559). While I am at it I would like to add the Auto Lights also but there is like 8 different switches available lol

Have seen the above method but would like to retrofit as if it came from the factory as the sensor in question and gel pad is only approx £45 in total. The Auto Light Switch is approx £55.

hi, I tried to enable alarm beep on lock on a my15 s3 tonight and went through the following procedure like silky-s3 says -

Alarm beep on lock / unlock
Go into [09] Central Electronics
Go into Secuity Access and enter 31347
Adaptation channels, and you are looking for:
(1)-Acknowledgement Signals -Akustische Rueckmeldung entriegen (un-lock acoustic feedback)
(2)-Acknowledgement Signals -Akustische Rueckmeldung verriegeln (lock acoustic feedback)
Set one or both to on if you wish.
Then set the following to "on"

It did this fine but the beep is not there. Any ideas please?

When I did mine I used the same as the above but I also activated the menu, then tested:

Acoustic Lock Menu
Select [09] Central Electronics > Adaptation > Acknowledgement Signals -Menuesteuerung akustische Rueckmeldung > Set Yes

The beep on lock / unlock should not need the menu to work but configuring this might kick it in to life if you see what I mean... If that does not work then you might need an up to date version of VCDS, if not already, although when I first configured this option it was February 2014 and VCDS was version 12.X back then.

thanks the reply but that doesn't seem to have solved it :(

im on vcds 14.10

Strange, can't see why this would not work. Only other things I can think to do would be to revert the configurations back to stock and run the engine for a few mins. Then install VCDS Beta 15.3 (additional to v14) and try the coding again. I had issues with v14 the other day, recoding with the Beta solved them.

Hope this helps.

Thank you ill give that a try later on. Can you please tell me how to get the visual parking aid on please? I assume it would work with just the rears from the comfort pack?

Thanks alot

I enabled the unlock and lock beep for @nickatkinson on saturday

Also did this for @nickatkinson

In the control unit of the parking aid you can unlock the Audi A3 8V the visual display of the parking aid via the MMI, even if only the 'small' parking aid is fitted to the rear.

The following code is used:

  1. Select STG 10 (parking aid)
  2. STG access permission - select function 16
  3. Enter access code 71679
  4. STG coding -> Select function 07
  5. Select Byte 2
  6. Bit 0 - visual representation parking aid - activate

Live with VCDS coding instructions:

Quick question on the acoustic lock/unlock.

If you enable lock and unlock together with the MMI menu but then deselect it using the menu option will it then still beep when unlocking ?

Could someone link me to the needle sweep please? I've tried a few searches but can't find it :( thanks
