hi all if my Central locking only opens the drivers door and boot

Do I need a new pump and do I have to recode keys etc...

Could just be a loose vacuum line on the pump unit.does it lock all doors when locking but only open the drivers door and boot?also check for water ingress at the connections on the pump, that's what killed my pump

No it doesn't lock only does the same as opening drivers and boot

Ok I would first check the central locking pump unit to see if any off connections are corroded or wet, rear lights have a tendency to leak and fill the pocket where the pump sits corroding the conectors

Might be worth giving it a night in an airing cupboard,Ive also heard of people putting a small amount of copper slip on the connection terminals, ive not tryed this myself though.

So the pump doesn't have anything to do with the coding sorry if sounds stupid but am new to audi's don't want to lose my code if I unplug it

I think i does relate to the coding but I don't think it you would lose coding on removal.there may be some procedure on syncing them again.you would still be able to start your car though as the transponder is seperate to the pump itself

Hello all,ive just bought a 99 plate audi a3 1.8 turbo quattro.my problem is my key fob doesnt work also if im sat in the car and press the in car central locking button that wont work but sounds like the central locking pump in the boot makes a strange noise..i can open the drivers side door with my key but the passenger door remains locked and i have to open it from the inside so two problems with the locks/central lock...any help or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated...thanks bobby beale,an yes i killed lucy beale!!!

Thanks for the reply, erm well i suppose i would explain it as a whirling noise.sounds like its trying to do something without anything actually happening

sounds like a broken pump then, the locking works by vacuum, with pipes going to each lock. If a pipe has become broken, the pump whirrs away and cannot generate any vacuum so the doors wont unlock.

Eventually the pump itself will break due to whirring for so long each time resulting in nothing happening at all.

Thanks, yeah ive had a few people say the same thing to me now..suppose i best get the broken pump out find the serial numer and get looking on good old ebay..thanks for the advice @aragorn much appreciate my friend

I'd say check the pipes first or the o-rings on top of the pump rather than changing the whole thing, could just be something simple

Cheers kevin, may attempt to get it out later and have a look..it looks a right pain in the **** to get to:keule:

Update on mine

I picked up a fuel sender unit off a nice chap in cov he does seem to think my problem is vacuum related

Do you have a problem with your central locking Carl?.

Think I will order a central locking pump the weekend, see if that sorts it

But of an update on this

Had a look at the pump seems the pipe the bit pipe is blowing and sucking fine but the small pipe isn't so pump broken ?

But today now the boot won't open really starting to regret buying this car just problem after problem
