New 2015 RS3!!!

I'm planning on ordering one later this year, so more than happy to let the dust settle first. I bought the first iteration of the Golf R32 with DSG before even seeing or driving one - it felt like a bit of mistake at the time and mine was one of the first UK cars, so yep, it had some issues and not long after I ordered mine, a number of options/deals appeared that weren't available at launch. I'm finding the info being posted very interesting and helpful, even if it could be 9 months to a year away from when I will actually buy one.

I'm in a similar position in the hunt for the next car has started, currently got an M135i and was hoping for the X-drive version to be released with the recent LCI but as it's not happening and as the M135i doesn't like the cold traction wise it's time to start looking for a replacement.

So as others have said the info posted here is proving invaluable, could this RS3 be my first Audi!!!!

Anyway I've been lurking for too long so thought I'd join in.:beerchug:

you need to get it right, my first RS3 didn't have roof rails or BOSE it bugged me badly every time i looked at it or played some tunes ...

anyway there is no rush this time, its not a limited run and waiting means they will hopefully have solved all the inevitable issues we find :)

Spot on Dave theres no rush theres plenty to go round,im gonna sit tight and ride out the storm and let everybody else have the teething troubles.

My RS3 was hysterical in the bad snow we had a couple of years back shod in its winter tyres, I got several sub 6 second times recorded on the snow lol

Agreed you can't beat Quattro for winter traction.

The bad winter of 2010 sticks in my mind when we had a deluge of heavy snow fall.

I sailed by loads of stricken cars on a hill in my TT - even without winter rubber the 4 wheel drive made a world of difference on snow ..... BMW's stood no chance and were snaking like mad, most just abandoned :)

Remember that winter well i was driving a Merc sl at the time and got stuck in the snow in my street had to retract the metal roof to get some more weight over the rear wheels to get traction,id been waiting for about 6 months for the mk 1 RS3 to be launched and still no firm date so getting stuck in December i gave up waiting and bought an S4.

I'd traded in my VWR32 for the M135i and having had Lotus Elise & Exiges there's something just not right with the M135i set up, once you get down to 2-3 degrees the traction just isn't there.

Anyway apologies for the thread creep but I am partial to something special in a motor and the RS3 is certainly ticking a lot of boxes at the mo as an all rounder. I do a lot of outdoor stuff but like to arrive in style.....I wonder how much it's going to cost to get it de-restricted to 174mph...muhahahah!

Don't know what I dislike more:

The huge 'cruise control sensor' or the HUGER 'Quattro lettering' on the grill - thank god both are optional :)

ughh the dalek sensor is horrid !!

it really is an eye sore isn't it - staggered Audi could not have designed something more subtle yeah dalek sensor that's spot on :)
Also agree on the red press cars - the colour looks terrible on most photo's with its orange tinge - not a fan of the aluminium pack either, while we are having a moan lol !
Which is odd, as I really liked how they styled the aluminium pack on the last RS3.
Much prefer this look and is exactly what I will be going for ....

correct :icon thumright:

and this is how the black pack looks by comparison (although I think the wing mirrors are £extra if you want those in black too) ...

Although by its own admission the RS3 will no doubt deliver the performance figures I can't help, after seeing many photos, that the RS3's styling looks ever so slightly disproportionate. It just feels like audi hurried along with the design using the S3 as a solid point of advantage and came up with a few add ons and tweaks that resulted in a bit of an anticlimax along with a very high price (well specced without bucket seats available)

I know what the reaction will be to this but here goes anyway:
Am I missing something or does the RS3 not have an eco mode like the S3 s-tronic?

It's a deal breaker for me if it hasn't got an Eco mode as what's the point of buying a performance car and not being able to watch how many mpg's I'm getting and I can sleep safely at night knowing I'm saving the planet.:jump:

I use Eco mode on my S1 on the 2-3 long journeys I make in it per year. But mainly as there is no comfort option, Eco gives the softest suspension/quietest exhaust.
Assuming the RS3 will have comfort mode (making the exhaust quite - it has a flap in it I assume, and the mag ride soft - if spec'd) that's all I care about.
If it did have an Eco mode it might save 0.2mpg, so not bothered.
If you REALLY want it, then I expect VCDS can enable it, I added Race mode to my SQ5.

Do people really think the RS3 is over priced ?

When I did the calc I thought it was excellent value for money ...

When you consider an S3 sportback is £31,560
plus s tronic @ £1,480
plus LED lights @ £800
plus 19" wheels @ £800
plus light and rain sensors and light pack @ £500
That little lot (standard on the RS3) brings the comparable S3 to £35,140

So RS3 direct premium over S3 is £4,850 which is to me is excellent value for money :icon thumright:

The base price is ok, but some of the options are way overpriced. I'll be spending ~£54k for my preferred spec which is stupid money. Maxed out it should be £49-50k IMO.

Bang on Snake, couldn't have put it better myself. I think like for like against the S3 on cost it matches up very well. Hence why I cancelled my S3 order just in time :)

I NEVER use the efficiency mode in my S3, it's ****** awful (no engine breaking... steering feels like it's connected to a lump of lard, etc) and very questionable that it delivers better mpg IMO.

I don't understand why modern cars avoid engine braking... When you do it the ECU stops injecting fuel into the cylinders (so saves fuel!), plus it's easier on your brakes.

Basingstoke Audi say the configurator will be up for them to configure RS3 orders next week.

But today......... we had to do it the old fashioned way :) (4th on their list :))

[EDIT] they asked their master technician about the tuning box fitted to my car and he came back with it will flag a TD1!!! For assurance after I secured the order for the RS3, I have booked in with them to run a full Diag on my car to see if it actually does flag the FSR box! (else .. WBAC here I come again lol!)

Assuming you are going to remove the box/put the canceller on before they scan it then there should be no trace and so no TD1.
My S1 has passed that test already.

But do I need to remove the FSR box (or fit the blank)?? If its flagged, its flagged  (I doubt it has though, and it doesn't bother me either way, just need to assure Basingstoke Audi before they will offer a trade-in)

If you don't remove/blank it and it has been scanned at any point I expect it will be TD1'd. That's kinda the point of having a tuning box - removable for services!

okay, cheers for the info. I'll fit the blank before it goes in. It's the first visit to the shop so it's never been scanned yet.

doing a search and based on this 8P RS3, map that across to an 8V with the matt alu pack and that is what I am aiming for (luckily -or not- as the case case maybe, the wheels are almost a straight swap lololol) rotors so so old, but hey-ho, knowing me, I'll replace them anywayz

this beast is fantastic looking:

Went to dealer today to pick up my original gearstick I left when I had a metal one fitted on my S3 back in September on pick up. Spoke with my guy/friend there, he's got my specifications by email going by the brochure that was available online. He has configured it on the configurator but there are some discrepancies with the prices of the optional extras some lower some higher. Says he will know official prices on first of April has booked me in for Friday to put together some kind of initial deal. Also he has sent me some info on the car have not looked at it yet but apparently power figures blah blah blah. Can't post it on here but when I have looked at it I'll let people know if there is anything on interest. Just a update, so maybe Friday orders will open

"I got some stuff to send you on the car, don't post it on the form I could get in trouble if it gets traced back to me" that's what he said, I'll take a look at it tomorrow & see if there is any useful information in it. But as for the actual document I won't be posting it.
