Audi Connect SIM card choices.

Last weekend in Stratford-upon-Avon. Was so surprised I ran the test twice just to be sure :)

Makes my best look a little sad

I can confirm the ee preloaded 6gb 90 cards work wonders.

Mine didn't work at first, I got LTE full strength, however couldn't get any services, after a few calls to ee (the first one the PAYG chap accidently put the phone down on me) I got passed the indian call center to someone who knew what he was doing, within 30 seconds he had sorted it, the previous tech department has setup the sim wrong apparently.

I didn't need to change any settings in the MMI, it just works.

Hmm I'm having issues with my EE data sim and getting connect to work. It shows the signal bars and LTE so no worries there. I've ticked the data box and to connect without request on on the data usage page I can see Kb sent and received both increasing so it's doing something.

When in connect it just says checking service for updates for about 5 minutes then service not available. Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance.

For those of you that have data hungry kids that use the wifi in the car you might want to consider an EE data only contract. I have just signed up for 12 months for a shared data sim with the Wife's existing EE account at £8 per month. Between the two accounts they have 10gb per month which is effectively unlimited, even with my 7 year old son's unhealthy minecraft/youtube habit.

UPDATE : All sorted. Needed to activate WLAN from telephone menu then join the cars network from my phone which then pulled up an EE logon web page and selecting option 2 to activate.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm putting an EE SIM in mine when it (finally) turns up.

You could have just read my post earlier which explained this :p

They work flawlessly. No messing with APN or PIN settings or anything else - just stick the card in, connect a tablet or phone to the Wifi and try browsing and you're redirected to the registration page. Fill in your details and activate and it all then works.

Ah I missed that myself. Could have saved an hour of phone calls to EE customer services and their PAYG CS team are rubbish. Will make a note for next time.

I read the whole thread some posts suggested it was completely plug and go - think the fact that the data counter was showing that data was being sent and received threw me so thought it was a non sim related issue.

Seems like I was worrying for no good reason about getting the right size SIM (after checking this thread a dozen times to make sure) - EE send out a "Multi SIM"

Wonder whether this SIM deal will be any good for those with Audi Connect

1GB per month for 12 months for a total one off cost of £24.99
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/kno...-broadband-for-12-months-24-99-annual-2160024

Not a bad deal at all and should work fine. Only issue with Three is coverage, which in my experience is either brilliant or non-existent, with nothing in-between. Use them for my phone and does the job but EE's 4G network is far better, just costs too much for my phone.

Handy if it's a fully adaptable one. Need to be careful with the EE pre-paid ones discussed earlier as these are sold as either a Nano-SIM or a Combi-SIM and you need the latter for the A3. Annoyingly the Combi is a couple of quid more than the Nano for some weird reason.

I've got one of those EE Shared Plans so for a fiver extra a month it uses my main phone's data allowance. The lady I spoke to on the phone was very helpful and said that she'd just send me a Multi SIM in case I'd asked for the wrong one. So far it's working like a charm.

Just swapped my first EE SIM out for another one. All smooth, only two small things to be aware of - firstly the APN settings reset to some t-mobile thing which didn't work, just set the APN to "everywhere" (no quotes) and blank user/pass and it's fine - secondly the data connection request setting was reset so I had to change it back to "without request" so it didn't ask me every time I started the car. Other than that just pop the new one in and register via an iPad and job done.

Wow, I'm impressed that this thread is still going. Just read all 9 pages! The reason I came back is I was recently building a new s3 on the Audi website and noticed that Audi Connect isn't an option anymore. Anyone know when/why this changed? Anyhow, some of you might be interested to know that I am still using the same 321 SIM that I bought a year ago and I haven't had to top it up yet! £10 worth of credit has lasted me a whole year.

It's still there, it's just not under Audio & Communication but rather Equipment Packages -> Special Packages.

Was out and about earlier and couldn't get online to do a destination search so was thinking a problem with the data connection. Turned out the Audi Connect services were unavailable, nothing to do with the SIM. Panic over nothing!

Why is no one using o2 sim cards? I don't like EE and have o2 for both work and personal. Has anyone had any experience of using o2 sim cards with Audi Connect?

Got o2 in mine, got the 30 day 3Gb to try to see how much data was used before committing, get 4G around Northampton and it works perfectly, last time I look I'd only used about 250Mb in 24 days.

Our work provider was O2 for years and gave us an utterly atrocious service, plus their coverage where I live is not very good. Always avoid them, but I suspect there's lots of people who can say that about each of the networks! Just personal preference at the end of the day.

Well, reading this thread certainly passed the time!

Why are these things so confusing? I am on an EE SIM only deal so I'm guessing I can't get a second SIM share on this deal?

Don't like the time limits on many of the PAYG SIM contracts. Unless anyone has any better ideas I may monitor this thread and make a decision closer to collection day.

Spending more than £5 per month on a separate SIM for the car seems a bit much. I had hoped my iPhone 6 could be connected and access all the services so disappointed to see it doesn't.

How long is it before you have to pay Audi for the connect services and how much is that?

I pay £5 per month for a SIM for the car on an EE Sharer Plan, which gives it access to my 20GB monthly data allowance. I also pay another fiver for a SIM on the same shared plan for my iPad. EE do seem to have a handle on people with more than one mobile device.

Maybe I'll call them and see if I can get a second SIM on my pay monthly SIM only account then.

Just contacted EE, they'll charge me £7/month for a data sim on a 24 month contract or £8/month on a 30 day rolling contract which will be added to my account and share my usage allowance.

Bit disappointed after expecting £5/month but i guess it's better than getting top ups or repeatedly using different PAYG cards. I've got a 2GB monthly data allowance which i currently use little of, as mostly i'm using wifi so i expect my allowance to be sufficient.

I have just bought the EE prepay data-only SIM again. 6GB (2GB per month for 3 months). Still - doesn't seem a bad deal at £17.99 from Currys. (Sticking with a prepay SIM until can work out what 'normal' data usage will be).

May indeed be worth buying a cheap pre-pay for the first month just to see what likely usage is.

Really strange what they offer. Maybe it's because I already had one for a fiver? I didn't have to take a contract with it either, just a bolt-on to my existing contract.

I may try a PAYG for a month and if usage is not huge give EE a call & try to get an extra SIM for £5. Easy money for them!

I have (and am currently in Paris). I have three which allows roaming in certain countries. Data prices are however higher than in UK. In Germany, I had to buy an expensive SIM package.
Has anybody used there Audi connect on the continent ??

If your simply using the SIM for Connect services and not going crazy with other devices over WIFI then I've found the following SIM to be more than ample and an absolute bargain.

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/broad...ter-sim-10088330-pdt.html?intcmpid=display~RR

It's costs a one off charge of £25, and provides 1GB per month for 12 months.

The website states it's 3G and I'm not sure what network it's over but whatever it is I'm seeing 4G coverage in and around Northampton.

It's a capped contract and you get emails at 50%, 85% and 100% of usage.

Certainly sounds a bargain but confusingly when the MMI Connect shows 4G it's really 3.5G and only if LTE is shown is it really operating at what the rest of us knows as 4G. There, that's clear as mud isn't it?

Hi guys

I have found this deal on ebay and price doesnt seem that bad either was wondering is that what I need for my audi connect ? just a data sim like this one.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EE-4G-Mob...IM-Card-Preloaded-With-6GB-Data-/321180468637

Yep - I've got one in the car now. Decided to give it a go as it was cheaper than the '3' ones I have been using.

You will need to activate it, unlike the '3' ones that just work.

I activated mine by using the WLAN in the car & trying to browse the web from my phone connected to the car WLAN.

You'll get a web page asking you to input some details to register - but you don't need to do that.
Just click on 'Step 2' (I think that's what is labelled), and it should just work.

Spoke to Vodafone and they are sending me an additional data SIM card which is linked to my mobile phone account. It's going to cost me £4 per month, and as I've got a 20gb data allowance there should be no issues. It will also let me use it abroad subject to their £3 per day charge.
