Hi, I've just driven to work and noticed that my speedo lights and rev lights were off. The needles were light up and the digital speedo in the middle was working. Is there an option to turn those light on/off or is there a fault?

First time I've driven it in the dark!

Hmm that looks like a problem to me - can't imagine there being a setting to do that as it would probably be illegal or contravene some legislation or something. Looks like a visit to the dealer ;o(

Is your light selector turned to off instead of auto? That's what mine looks like if it's set to off

Lol spot on, just spoke to another audi owner in work and he's done the same thing! Just went back out to the car and it was in the off position!!! Didn't notice the lights off on the way in as the roads are well lit and the led running lights were throwing out good light!!! Back in auto position and panic over lmao

Just be aware even though DRL's are giving good light your rears lights (unless coded) will not be lit.

OK cheers guys, just mad panic on the way to work...as I said a guy in work put me right as soon as I told him what had gone on :) I can only think I have knocked it into off when cleaning it the other day!

How come the posts I did above don't show it came from Tapatalk, forum admin turned it off?

Ha weird !! Glad you sorted it - I had no idea the light switch would do that :thumbs up:

Apparently, its an Audi Safety Feature. The idea is that as it gets darker (and if the switch is in off position), the instrument panel lights dim as a reminder to turn your lights on. Obviously doesn't work very well in well lit areas though :).

Yeah after the event and sitting here it is logical thinking, but when you're on your way to the first night shift of the week and see blackness on our dash it's a case of "WTF...push buttons and see if there's a setting" :p I did think maybe the lights aren't on, so looked ahead and saw light on the road coming from the car and assumed they were!...that was when panic set in thinking my baby was broken lol. When I got back in work after being told what it was I did have the P taken out of me :D

Imagine if nothing had been said and I had gone down to Audi today!!! That would have been embarrassing..."Yes sir, it's not working as you have to switch your lights on at night for it to come on"

Whats more worrying is your car is set to Economy mode!! :nyah::undwech:

On a serious note though, I nearly did a similar thing at the weekend when I switched my lights to off and forgot and was then driving wondering where all the light had gone... amazing how we get used to cars just doing things for us then get stumped by something as simple as turning the lights on :keule:

lol yeah it's only 10 mins to work and stopping for lights all the way, so doesn't warm up enough to boot it, so thought I may as well use that for little trips :)

It's good that the lights even on auto behave like they do with the dash lights, unlike the ones that are constantly illuminated the only other indication would then be a small warning light. Not that some drivers realise their lights aren't on when its dark anyway, makes you wonder if they ever look down at their speedo at all and at least that shows you do....

There's no 'auto' position on my A3. But I dhave noticed the dash lights coming on and off by themselves.
The other day, I caught them gradually getting brighter as bright sunlight came out... But when I drive in to a tunnel, they don't come on, nor do the head lights... Seems a bit weird to me!

There was a thread a few days ago about accidentally catching the light switch with the knee when entering the car. That would have the same result as described here, so it's worth repeating the conclusion of that earlier thread - when getting into the car, mind your knob!

Madonna??

lol yeah it's the new album, I was waiting for someone to pick that up :D...I have mad music taste which covers a lot genres!

This is what's on the SD card up to now:
