Only half privacy glass

Rear of the B pillars the glass could be so dark that you can't see through at all - same rules V8 posted in #10 also apply to after market tints.

My S/B has privacy glass and you can barely see into it under normal light conditions :-

Hope you get it sorted but make sure you get an Audi branded replacement glass and not one made for the replacement market otherwise the trademark will likely be different. Had a new screen on my Leon and all original glass had SEAT on the trademark but the new screen was Pilkington and had a completely different logo/emblem. Prob more difficult to see on privacy glass but thought I'd mention it.

My rear window is nowhere near as dark as that

I still think that the privacy glass makes the cars look decidedly odd. With clear front and front side windows looks like a magpie.

Hence why you get it all tinted I've had my current car 8yrs it's had a medium tint on the back and a light tint on the front since the day after I bought it, never been stopped for it! My previous car I had for 6yrs again that was tinted and never got stopped for that, my next car will also have tinted glass all round

Personally I think that the privacy glass makes the A3 look more like a van, especially if the car is black,

Only the SB though, mine looks more like a pimp or drug pusher car, fantastic!

Awesome, it's not like we are any strangers to that ;) However I guess some just need to get a sense of humor...

Hmm, I'm not convinced. The picture you posted earlier is saturated in too much light looking through from back to front where there is masses of light. The picture is inconclusive because of the angle you have taken it at

A picture you posted previously looks a lot darker to me and doesn't fit your description of as clear as the front...

Look on Autotrader, Pistonheads and scour this forum for pictures of cars with tinted glass, depending on the angle the picture was taken and light conditions it can appear very dark, medium dark or even light.

I'm not sure how it would pass through Audi being undetected, nor in the dealership when they were preparing the car or even above when you were taking the picture? Having just the 2 side windows tinted would be a very noticeable mistake but yet it has passed by the eyes of many before you 'thought' that it may not have a tint applied?

You're going to look like a right eejit if it turns out you are wrong so before causing uproar, I would be 110% sure you are right otherwise you'll be the laugh of the dealership when you drive it all the way back upto Aberdeen. I say from the photo above, there may be a tint applied (Different light saturation). I would have to see it up close and in person to be sure though.

Trust me it Definately doesnt have a tinted rear window, this has been confirmed by 3 salesmen, a technician and the workshop manager at another local dealer plus it was parked next to another S3 saloon with privacy glass in the same light and that one was noticeably darker. So there's no chance of me looking a eejit but cheers for the comment.

Very interested to hear what Audi has to say, being very fussy I would rather have the glass professionally tinted than replacing the back window!

Yes I'm very fussy about my cars aswell and the thought of having the rear window cut out and new one bonded in with all the trim in place is bothering me

It's very unlikely that the Audi technicians would actually do the work of replacing the glass most likely to call in a professional glass company like Autoglass who do this day in and day out. When I had my windshield replaced on my Seat Leon it took the bloke nearly two hours he was very careful indeed and it was totally unmarked not even a grubby finger print ! On that he had to remove interior rain sensor cover, A post trims, wiper arms and the lower scuttle trim so the rear glass is a much easier job. The interior trim will most likely not need to be touched.

If you are bringing it to Aberdeen to get done it'll probably go round to the John Clark Bodyshop I would think and they would carry out the work as if they were replacing the glass on any other car they have in (they do most of the VAG insurance repair work up here) so I wouldn't be too worried about their work, I've found them pretty good in the past when getting previous Golfs repaired.

At the end of the day, as has been said, go around the car before hand with the guy you hand the keys to and sign that there is no damage to the trim or paintwork around there and do the same on collection. Don't be fobbed off with getting the keys back and being left to go and drive the car away as if there are any issues you want them signed as there straight away by them.

I'm 100% with you there mate, not wanting to worry you but also check you alloys on collection!!! I had a windscreen changed a few years back and it was only when I got home I noticed some light scuffs on the alloy, it looked like someone had stood on the alloys to get a bit of height or leverage when cutting the screen out...luckily they polished out.

When I collected my S3 I noticed the smallest of marks on the alloy and thought am I being petty pointing it out!?! I'm glad I did as they agreed to change the wheel for a new one....you can see how small it is by comparing it with the droplet of water above it: (but it's one of those that you see each time you clean the car as you know it's there).

That rear window is clearly not privacy glass! Yes it may look dark at different angles like any car window will as they are all tinted to some degree. But as I already said it clearly is not privacy glass! I hope you get it sorted pal

Cheers tony I'm sure i will mate

Be wary having the screen changed... My 8P was delivered with a badly chipped windscreen (dealer admitted that...) but also a chipped sunroof panel which they didn't admit to... V big row ensued, esp after an attempted repair - the screen and new sunroof panel were incorrectly fitted, two pieces of trim damaged and the paintwork scratched!!!! Ended up rejecting the car and getting a full refund. Horrible experience...

Well this issue has now been rectified with a complete new Audi rear glass which was fitted in the bodyshop of my local dealers and they have done a fantastic job with not a mark on my car.

Ignore the orange looking paintwork that was just the sunlight shining into the garage when i took the picture lol

Sales guy: "Lets skip over that one you don't want gangster glass"
Me: "Yeah tick that one"
Sales guy: "..." *click*

I had it on the 8P and when the sun shined it would lessen the burn.

With tints on the 8V, is the passenger and driver window tinted to 30%? They feel less tinted than the 8P A3 (both fitted by manufacture). So I'm not sure if this has not been done or what?
