Hi all,

I've not been on here much at all recently as my 2006 A4 S-Line Tdi (140) has behaved impeccably for 2 year's now without a single problem.

For the past few days now however, I've noticed that it has developed a really strange noise.

In 6th gear, at between 1500-1700rpm i can hear what i can only describe as a 'blowing' noise, but can't figure out where is coming from. Other than that, it feels and drives fine and make this noise at no other time, but new noises bother me. Any ideas what it could be?

This isn't the thread I was expecting after reading the title... :redface new:

Haha, sorry to disappoint!

I should also mention that I tried driving with the air-con and blower turned off and the noise still happens. Could it be a loose turbo pipe or something? I think I'll get it booked in for investigation.

I've been doing a little more digging around the internet and might have found a potential cause for this odd wind noise I've been hearing:

This seems to ring true as (and it just struck me now) I also noticed recently that I was hearing water sloshing around somewhere after heavy rain when turning corners, so it could be simply that my plenum chamber/drain is clogged up with leaves and crud! I'll have a look into this at the weekend.

Hey guys, I just thought I'd give this a bump. I had my local garage have a look and they discovered that the plenum drain was indeed clogged up, so have cleared it all out and removed all of the gunk in the hope that it might fix the problem, but the weird 'blowing' noise at 1500rpm is still happening and my mechanic is worrying me that this could be the dreaded balancer shaft failure issue.

Since the blowing noise only happens at a certain point in the revs, what else could be the cause of this? I've got the car booked in again for more diagnostics, but I surely can't be the only one to have experienced this?!
