MIGGZ's A3 1.8t - The all rounder build thread

Ah man,

Sack off the new one, pull the car off the road for a while and save for a BBT, do it once and do it right!

Or,Just bang it on a credit card and deal with the **** later!

Na dude need the car running asap have events next month

And there is more important things like half cage and that lol

and all is back together and did a short 10km drive on low boost last night to check everything

ported to match the manifold

all together

think the engine bay needs some colour sigh

Good work miggles,

How did it feel on your test drive?

Are you going to get an 'after' dyno shortly for the new manifold?

Hey Miggz

Nice work on the turbo porting BTW. What did you do for a turbo/mani gasket dude?

Surely the i/d of an OEM K04 one is way too small now?

Thanks dude

I took the original gasket and ported that to match

What i want to do is take one that's ported and take it to an engineering place and get them to make a copy out of copper

Did your OEM one fall into 4 seperate layers when you took the material out of the middle? Mine did!

If yours isn't blowing then that's good enough for me. I've got no way of testing mine yet - the turbo/mani is being used as a paperweight in my office until my engine is ready!

Yup broke into 4 layers I just kept it all together put one hole on the stud and pushed the bolt through the other and its sweet no leaks

@Nathan Barnes dude got a slight leak on saturday with the gasket like it is, loosened the bolts then re tightened and all sorted. but decided im going to be making some copper ones that are already ported to match the v4 would you be interested in one? going to send a few to sam as well

last week tuesday was suppose to be tuning day but while we were busy fuel pump was failing so had to abort it sigh!!! took pump out and bench tested it to make sure, at 4bar it was a whole 41L per hour so safe to say it was that lol

Put new one in and car was alive again but no tuning.

had a vw club event on saturday dyno night so i was prepping for that.

i got there at 7pm on saturday and registered at number 118 and only 45 was on the dyno so was going to be a loooong night!!!!
after listening to everyone saying the dyno figures are down and seeing so many people upset with their results i started doubting and wanting to pull out. car was on untuned daily drive map, lower boost and no special juice in the tank not like everyone else that was running high boost race maps and more aditives in the tank to melt gold.

the owner of the dyno convinced me to just hang in there he is really keen to see my figures so i did.
after the 1st run everyone was crowding around my bonnet and thought something was wrong so dived in to see the manifold glowing red and everyone was amped to see. i was staring at that manifold like a moth to a flame that i never paid attention to the figures or even pull my phone out to record lol

the power was measuerd on the wheels and not bhp. i thinks its safe to say i have one of the strongest k04s in SA, next up is throwing the 4bar out and fitting 440s and getting it tuned

so ~11hp gain from the v4 mani?

Looks like top end is holding much nicer too.

Good work Miggles!

i rate more can be achieved they were done on different dynoes and this dyno is down vs the original dyno the before figures was on. But thanks anyway nick

so after seeing my glow in the dark V4 on saturday i decided to get cracking on some heat shielding

went to ATS to get some material

and made a plate as well

and my inspector that needs to constantly check my work but refuses to hand me any spanners when i need them

on the motor rory come now!!!

That means you can upgrade the turbo.... T3 ..... v band..... GT 35r

so finally got a full day to play on my own car a little, redid the one boost pipe that was done by the previous builder, the poor quality stainless, poor welding, cracks in the pipe and the patches of pratley steel everywhere was killing me so did this one yesterday and ill do the throttle pipe soon as well. but with the duel wmi nozzles and new map flange.

got cracking with the shapes and stuff

spot welded

and all done

so much better and neater

Time to look for some parts for the battery relocation I think

yeah dude makes so much sense to do it then nice and spacious.

all you need is a battery box, 2 terminals for the battery.

take a wire from positive on battery to starter positive, then from ther to the fuse box that that was on the battery and done.

the ground you can mount at the back to the body
