Hi guys,

I have been trying to find a suitable answer for days now about the following issue:

When I turn the ignition on and select reverse, my camera feed is great. However, when I turn the engine on, it says "no video signal".

Current setup of the camera is +12V from reversing light, ground from boot bolt. Tested with multimeter, when ignition is on and reverse selected, I get 11.9V. When I turn on the car, the voltage goes to 13.6V and camera won't work.

So my best guess is that either the camera doesn't like the higher voltage or it has something to do with the CAN BUS. What would be the easiest way for me to solve this? Get +12V from rear wiper perhaps?

Get a simple +12 volt source, independent from the car electrics and see if the video signal is recognized when the 'car is turned on'. If so, it looks like the camera does indeed not like the higher voltage. However, with the simple +12v supply the signal is NOT recognized when the car is turned on, then the fault probably lies with the device receiving the video. That is how I would diagnose this particular problem. Good luck

Did you find a solution to this? Just installed mine in the same way and have the same issue.

Yep, just connected it to the +12V outlet in the boot (there is wiring present even if you have no outlet in the boot, like it was the case with me) and it started working perfectly.

Did see you'd said that in another post so gave it a go today.
Couldn't find a 12v wire that would be a outlet anywhere though.

Where abouts was it for you?

When you look at the car from the back, on the right side, behind the side panel. Just get a multimeter and test out the wires, the one which gives 11-13V is the correct one.

The car should be shut off and all the electronics turned off. You can use any bolt which does not have paint on it as a ground, or any black wire you can tap into.

Ah right. My camera doesn't want to work with anything 13v. Did try the amp power and it wouldn't show a picture

If your ignition is off, you're not going anywhere... why do you need to use the camera??

surely its safer to just turn the car on and reverse it rather than rolling the car backwards with the ignition off

He needs a constant +12V, otherwise CAN BUS will interfere and shut down the power to the camera. That is why any non-constant +12V feed won't suffice.

Ran another cable to the head unit in the end. It had a +12v coming from the can-bus decoded. Works a treat now combined with a relay!

Thanks for the help
