So. The garage was ecstatic when they gave me back my car.....after 7 hours of stubborn 12 year old nuts and seized pinch bolts. Im just as happy to be driving a 'like new' feeling Audi A4, with new Meyle HD control arms, Bilstein B4 shocks and sport springs front and back, roll bar bushes front and rear, all spring and shock mounts and rear tie rod/track rod.

My sincere thanks go out to www.WelshVW.co.uk in Barry
for their perseverance and for not throwing a petrol soaked rag into the stubborn bitch.

Anyone else thinking about getting their arms changed on an old car, dont leave it any longer....itll just become harder for the poor mechanic.

Good stuff, will give the car a new lease of life - not cheap though!

I ended up having to purchase a new upright the other year after a stubborn pinch bolt. Make sure they applied plenty of anti - seize!

How much were you for all the parts of you don't mind me asking. I need to do my arms, springs, shocks but I'm on a budget, so need to figure out how much I need to save up.

Hiya. The arms were meyle HD off ebay. Cheapest I could find was £310.

B4 bilsteins were £230 or 240 cant quite remember, for the set. Cheapest I found was demon tweeks.

Springs were used off ebay. B7 2.0tdi sline fronts for £20 b6 sport rears for £15.

Top mounts meyle front £36, rear £33
Antiroll bushes front £5 rear £4
Rear drop links meyle £37
Lemforder rear tie rods £62
Rear bump stops £19 front £20
Rear spring mount lower Genuine Audi £8 Rear Upper spring mount Genuine Audi £26.

I found ebay items cheaper if you type in the exact part number. For example Bilstein 19-109497, Lemforder 26628. Instead of Audi a4 B6 ect ect.

I brought stuff over many months. Just make sure you dont wreck the car after buying the last bit. ;-)

Obviously, you can get the parts much cheaper if you dont care what quality parts you buy. But I wanted it to last the rest of the cars lifetime.

Thanks very much. I need new tyres as well so I think I'll be doing the same as you did and get bits at a time.

Dont forget the price of the alignment afterwards. Another £70 to consider. :bye:

So do you notice a massive difference in the handling now all the bushes are done?

I have to agree with the philosophy of buy once changed once. I needed two lower front arms and rear drop links and I opted for the cheaper ocap make from ecp and I am already a bit worried about their wear. The car is starting to step out with the back end like it used to.

If your planning on keeping the car for longer than 12 months you need to buy genuine parts, not the cheap ebay/ecp brands.

It's not cheap on these cars, but we'll worth it once done.

I intend on keeping my 3.0 v6 for a long time. I have big plans for this beast. Would you define meyle hd as cheap parts? I always thought they were on par with lemforder, which is OEM anyways.

No mate Lemforder are the suppliers to Audi, and Meyley are as good as these. Meyley HD are seen as an upgrade to the standard ones.

As for top mounts, ARB bushes, droplinks etc you can use either Lemforder, Meyle, or Febi really as they're all as good as each other.

It's the cheap arm sets you see on ebay, and the own brands that the likes of ecp, gsf, etc sell that you want to avoid at all cost.

Nice one thank you very much I'll save that into my audi folder so I can refer back to it at a later date.

So do you notice a massive difference in the handling now all the bushes are done?

It used to dive under braking, back end used to sink under acceleration, and going round corners, I had to hold onto the wheel to stop myself sitting in the passenger seat. It also used to wander around the road, and if you caught a long white line it would swerve over to the other side. Now its just solid and planted to the road. Obviously a little stiffer but not much more than before.

Mine has been like that since I bought it and my previous was similar so I always thought it was a bit of the nature of the beast. Still love her but really excited about getting my arms done now.
