Hi guys I'm at a loose end with my car, I had it mapped last week and since then it's highlighted that the haldex isn't working. I had it scanned and through 2 codes first one related to brake light switch which I renewed second code was 01155 which looks like it relates to pre charge pump, I researched a bit more and saw you could active the pump on VCDS so had it scanned again this afternoon and the chap actives the pump and said that it is communicating and so is the haldex, but for the life of me I can't get any traction in 1st 2nd 3rd if I boot it. I'm at my wits end with it and now thinking of doing the oil and filter change is it worth doing? The car is 170k on the clock I have no paper work to say it's been done and there is a lot of dry oil around the pump and bottom of the diff? Any feed back would be very much appreciated.

Si

I have the oil and filter coming, I ordered it yesterday along with the spanner tool but I don't see it curing my problem though

When he activated the pump, could you/he hear it running? it's quite audible, also when you activate the controller in the same test it is very hard to hear as the pumps already running, the noise it makes is only for a split second.
If you pull the tubing on the back of the pump off, see if any oil comes out, or have a good sniff, you'll soon smell if the pumps full of oil and burned out.
Have a look at the rear connector on the back of the diff too as these can either corrode, or if your pumps failed the oil might of tracked through the wires to this connector and oil will pour out of it when you undo it, that is what mine was like when my pump failed.
I'd have a look at these things first before you do the oil and filter as if you have to drop the pump you will lose the oil again.

Is this all realitivity easy to do on axle stands? Obviously having blocks on the front wheels to stop it rolling off the stands? As I will try it tomorrow pulling the tube from the pump. To be honest I didn't hear any noises when he activated the pump and to be honest I wasn't sure what to look out for, he just said it was communicating

Yes easy to get too on stands, It's how I done mine, you should hear the pump as like I say it's quite audible, did they actually run the output tests with vcds to activate it and make it run or just fault scan the haldex?

The guy done the output test with VCDS and said that it was activating and was ok and active. But I honestly didn't hear a noise but he had the car idling all the time which I thought was strange

Not sure if you'd hear it over the engine running unless you were underneath with your ear next to it, you definitely wouldn't be able to hear the controller operating, I've only ever run the output tests with the engine off.

Ok I'll take it somewhere else to get them to run the output test and see if it's working right

Also check the earth strap that goes from the floor to the top of the diff isn't broken.

Ignition on, has to be on for vcds to work...

Moved the car this morning when I turned the ignition on I can hear something run for a second or so sound is coming from bottom rear underside of the car so not sure if it the pre charge pump or the fuel pump but definitely a noise there?

that's the fuel pump priming

I have found a broken strap / wire it looks as though it connects to the floor pan and connects to the diff on passenger side near the drive shaft?

Think I may have solved it buy doing oil and filter also earth strap was broken, still think I may need a new diff as no oil drained out, so I'm going by that it has been empty for a long while as I haven't owned it long myself

If your strap is broken that could be the cause of the fault.

The fact it didn't have any oil isn't a good sign though :/

Is this the haldex or rear Dif that didn't have oil?

The diff had no oil in it when I went to drain it changed the filter put in new oil, replaced the strap and it all seems to be working, but now I have a sort of bunny hooping thing when I first start the car in 1st and 2nd, but I do have a Lamba issue which was replaced 2 weeks ago so looks like that is faulty

Bunny hopping, is it when you're turning the car?

On full lock my car would Bunny hop / crab walk because the haldex was locked on

No just when in a start line I'd almost say it was like a misfire, as engine light came on going to have it scanned again
