Hi all,

does anyone know if you can buy the exhaust trim only for the S3 or is it the whole system

It's a whole system but you might able to get the tail trims seperate from audi.

What's the problem??

.
No matter how fastidious you are at keeping them clean and/or polished, they will eventually start pitting.

Mine have started pitting also. I thought it was maybe down to using Autosol?

No, I use the even milder/less abrasive Brasso/Silvo wadding, it's not down to the polish.

The pitting is because it's some silly environmentally friendly plating process that doesn't use cyanide, unlike like the chrome plating process of the 60's and 70's. So it doesn't last as long these days. Plus the exhaust gasses and deposits all aid localised autocatalytic corrosion - you'll notice the pitting is mainly where the soot/waste products sit.

Cola and Aluminium Foil is the answer :)

Never had a problem on my TTS...... Oh I had the Scorpion Exhaust fitted!

This pitting drives me nuts :(

That would annoy me too. Is this common on all new cars nowadays? The only positive is that it looks like a great excuse for me to buy a new exhaust :)

I was going to post about this at the weekend, I even came up the title "my infected pipes".

I'm less then impressed after some hard mamba black glove brasso wadding session they still look like this.

If anyone has any possible solution to this I'm open to ideas.

Defo give the Diet Cola and Aluminium foil a go.

But for a permanent fix, the only solution is to get them plated again. Or new tips.

Google

Chrome cola foil

Then finish off with Baby Oil :jump:

Is their any way of getting rid of it ?

Been using autosol to clean mine every week, no pitting yet, car's 8 months from new now. Hope that's not going to happen to mine!

When I picked up my car from the detailer last night I mentioned this pitting and he was shocked it was happening at all and just said to use something like AutoSol + a soft pad (girlfriend/wifes make up cotton pads) to quickly clean them up and they shouldn't go all odd.

My girldriends a1 has this problem, my s3 hasn't started it yet as I clean the exhaust more regular. Is the 3m cleaner worked for anyone? I'm going t mention it to Audi next time I'm in. Don't want my exhaust ending up like this. Can anyone post up a product to prevent it when I'm cleaning the car weekly or twice weekly even

When they are clean you can put a coating of sealant on them to stop the soot sticking. I suppose wax would provide a similar barrier, but my limited understanding is that sealant is suitable for exhausts because it withstands much higher temperatures than wax.

I sealed mine with chemical guys Jetseal 109: wipe on thinly (any more is just a waste), leave 20 mins and wipe off. When you wash them afterwards they clean much easier, then reapply every one or two months. Alternatively you could use chemical guys V7 hybrid sealant: just wipe it on, then wipe it straight off: done. But the protection isn't as long lasting, so I just wipe them with V7 every couple of weeks. Just takes a minute.

[P.S. I'm not a chemical guys salesman, I just saw their P.R. videos and thought the stuff looked easy to use without me being able to screw anything up - other sealants are available]

I don't like the 4 tips, and since my middle 2 are now totally black it looks like I have 2 only :)

So take it out of economy mode! :friendly wink: Seriously, I don't think some modes open the flaps to all four pipes - I think 'comfort' and 'economy' just use the middle pair. You can program 'Individual' mode to open the four pipes, and 'dynamic' does anyway. Heaven knows what auto mode does; probably depends on speed, gearbox mode, throttle input and the current phase of the moon.

Don't confuse Cola with Drano...

And DON'T try that at home!

The tips can be replaced but if you look in plan view the angle of the slash cut is handed to follow the bumper so there are 2 LHS and 2 RHS. If you are looking to replace the inner pipes that tend to get most of the soot then you will need one of each.
