I think my battery is on it last legs. Takes a few times to turn over every morning and start/stop restarts the car after less than 60 secs when I stop at lights.

Enquired about a battery at Euro carparts and was told they can sell me one but I'd need to take it to the dealer to get it coded to the ECU. Is this true, could an independent do the same thing ? Is this something I'd need a VCDS cable and software to do ?

1st grab a ctek charger & charge it the full 8 steps, then see what it does, if new one is required, varta ultra silver dynamic E44, tayna sell them cheaply, brilliant battery, iirc code 577400078 or something like that.

Thanks for the reply, If I do need a new battery, does it need to be coded to the ECU ?

Interesting, I've been feeling my battery is on its way recently. I've got the CTEK charger and have charged my battery twice in the last couple of years, but on both occasions, even after well more than 24 hours charging, it still didn't reach step 8. Should I be waiting much longer than that for it to do the full job?

Don't think so. I changed mine in my 2006 2.0TFSi and everything worked fine with no recoding required.
