Another quick question looking at replacing the cam follower this weekend as I have no history of it being replaced and on 97k think it needs doing. Reading up on the pdf for instructions it says before installin let the follower soak in oil. I'm not sure if this is a daft question but what oil do I use just normal engine oil?
Thanks
Ash

Just engine oil is fine mate, just means don't bang it in dry, if there wasn't a better phrase for it.

Lol ok thanks I'll upload some pics once I'm done because if it hasn't been changed I rekon it will be in bad shape

If it's in bad shape then check the camshaft aswell, will most likely have worn the cam aswell.

Craig when checking the cam which bit am I looking at because I don't have a clue

Likely hood is it's the BGB or AXX engine, which doesn't have the revised camshaft. If you look through the hole and gently rock the car forward in 5th or 6th, you can rotate the camshaft so you can see any flat spots. If you do then I'm afraid it wants a camshaft.

Yer it's a bgb and I will have a look hopefully not because that sounds expensive

You can also use oil from where the can sits and smear it ask over inside and out so it's got a layer all over. Be careful handling it after though as it's slippery and if you drop it then you need to wipe dry and start again as it will probably have picked up dirt. That last one is from first hand experience!
