Hi just joined
Ive owned this now for the past 3 weeks, its a 1999 1.8 se automatic ,Ive a few tiny mods i want to do, like fit coilovers, get the wheels refurbed, and the last owner had de badged it and fitted a sports rear silencer box which makes it sound more sporty than it actually is LOL

1999 Pre-facelift on a W ???

I thought it right on the change over when i brought it but ive just looked at the build sticker in the, service book its got a build date of 11/98 but wasnt registered till the 11/02/2000 so must of been sitting around in Aud's storage compound for a while

got home from work earlier to find, a chap who lives 4 doors up from me, walking into my front garden as i pulled in the driveway , turns out he used to have an A4 a few years back till it got wrote off , and came to ask if I wanted the few bits n bobs that he had in his shed, before he takes them to the tip as he is moving house next week

just brought 2 dusty boxes of bits n bobs up which includes

2 face lift headlights
a pair of new and unused cv joints
new front and rear brake pads
several speakers and the audi cassette player/radio
aswell as loads of switches door handles and other assorted bits
and the highlight has to be a brand new set of FK coilovers :)

so i know what i will be doing over the next few weekends upgrading the headlights and fitting the coilovers

bonus
I had luck like that years ago with a Renault savana I got to use as a work horse.
I was looking for a drivers door mirror and couldnt find one in any scrapes and I was up dropping a work mate off one night and the old boy that lived next door to him comes out and said he had a load of spares for one..
there was door mirrors, new suspension, spare doors everything you would ever have needed. I took the lot and had to do 3 runs with the back seats folded down!!
I ran it for another 8 month and wen I sold it all the spares went with it and its still on the road 9 years later

thanks mate , Had a busy morning changed the rear pads and discs and got the rear coilovers fitted but rain has stopped play for the rest of the day,so will have to do the fronts next weekend, discovered that one of old shocks wasnt working properly as the damper rod was bent:mad: and the other side had no damping aswell

cant wait to see how it looks lowered all round reckon its been dropped by 50 to 60 mm on the back

Hi I've just got myself 1 in blue.., do the facelift head lights just swap straight over..? I found mine with 78k on the clock and been sat in dry storage for a few years..

No, you need to alter the loom as the plugs are different. If you get the FL headlights from a scrappy then cut the plug with some wire left on the plug.

Cheers for that, new to all this.
Only bought the car cheep as it sits at work all week, now after looking at a few pic's I've got the bug for building something different.

Yes need to cut the lip off the wings. When you remove the original indicators it's nice an clear. A Dremmel makes light work of this.

Facelift lights make a huge improvement.

Before

After

If you want clear repeaters don't get stung paying silly money, pop into Euro Car Parts and order a set for a Skoda Fabia, about £6 all in as opposed to £20

well after beginning work on it at 10 am and finishing around 4 pm I have got the front end done after a load of swearing several cans of wd40 and, 2 trips to the car spares shop, first trip was for a cv joint as it had begun clicking on turning during the week so thought I, would change it while i was under the car and lower rear track control arm as the rubber bush had gone, and that was on the passenger side, then had to go again for the drivers side for a anti roll bar link as the bushes in it had worn away ,

got it all back together, and it sits just where i wanted it too, feels a lot tighter on the road and the front doesnt wobble, pictures to come tommorrow at some point

Love it!if you leave it this low expect to catch pretty much everything, including the brake lines that run up the chassis leg and up the bulk head

cheers mate, going to let it settle for a few days and see where it sits, at the moment its sitting 65mm from the bottom of the thread on the shock bodies might take it back up another 10/15 mm then to be on the safe side

well thats the facelift headlamps fitted :) really tidied the front up and they was far easier ,to fit than some of guides make out aswell
didnt even have to take the bumper off , removed the indicator lenses, and got to the third bolt that way :)
used a dremel with a cutting disc to cut the indicator flange off off the wings , and slapped some paint over the bare steel to stop the rust
as for the wiring, I ordered the wiring kit from a chap on ebay in Germany made connecting the lights, back up a doddle , just need to get the alignment checked in the week and some uprated bulbs as they only have the standard ones in pics coming soon

looks better with the FL lights in just need to trim a tiny bit more off the passenger side wing as the light doesnt sit quite flush
and, the light is far better in the dark than the old lights which had the H4 bulbs in them

for your trimming, the facelift has no second lip at all, only the returning edge off the wing and nothing more.
