Hi I have not long bought an a3 and have noticed sometimes the idle is rather erratic, you can feel the car rocking and it's very annoying when sitting at traffic lights! I have looked at the idle speed on vcds and can see it ranging from around 790 - 840rpm. Where do I go from here/ what to check next?

Raise the idle speed slightly, i did this on my A3 which i've just sold. It didn't cure it completely but certainly helped.

Happened to mine as well, had to take injecors to Bosch service and they fixed it.

In total 300 Euros if I remember well.

Just for reference, on my motor (see signature), and according to the rev-counter, she sits at 950 rpm when cold, and 900 rpm when fully warmed up. I do agree that increasing the idle rpm a tad should help. But you should not see the rpm jumping around. Mine is silky smooth. This instability may well be due to some kind of injector problem. Also, I would get someone to check the engine mounts.. Good luck.

Hi thanks for the help. I have done a couple I screenshots, one showing engine idle on a graph, the rest looking for any possible culprits

Tosrsion value is around 1.0, I know 0.5 is ideal but am I right in thinking this is acceptable?

Injector values and egr, anyone see anything obvious?

Also where is the option to change the idle speed?

The adjustment of the objection timing won't sort your rough idle, however make sure it is around 0-0.5 when done, then visually adjust the rear cam sprocket position to match, this can only be done by eye and this is what will sort the rough idle.

I'm getting the cam belt changed soon as I don't know it's history so that should be taken care of at the same time. I'll bung some diesel injector cleaner through and see if it makes any difference

Does nobody know how to a adjust the idle speed?

Also I'm not convinced it's the cams/sprockets that are causing this the they are a mechanical constant and it only rough idles randomly, sometimes it idles smooth. Any other ideas??
