so just got my car remapped by my local garage bad bad idea so got stage 1 elite map on ,lasted 5 mins and kept getting a misfire / flat spot then next thing ,it starts rattling like f**k from top end really bad the car didn't cut out i had to switch it off so im thinking its not the timing belt ,anybody any ideas ? Could it be a coilpack ? In going to strip it anyway but just wondering if anyone has had this problem

Misfire is most likely a coilpack... pretty common after a map on old coils..

Was it done on a dyno? was the oil checked before the runs if so? was the car logged using VCDS? does a scan bring up any coil packs? was the garage a tuner or some garage and some map?

<tuffty/>

no wasn't done on dyno mate just with a genius i think its called ,oil was fine no logs no Il get it scanned tomorrow thow and no it wasn't a tuning garage mate just a repairs garage in seriously pi**ed off with myself worst mistake iv ever made

if it is a coilpack would this cause the rattling knocking noise i dont want to start it again incase its valves or something

the garage just said basically its not there problem there map is garaunteed but that doesnt cover hardware

It is their problem if they never health checked the car prior to mapping... and they have not even offered to look at the car to help diagnose the issue?

Any tuner has a responsibility to ensure that the car they are mapping is up to it... these are old cars and the NEED to be checked over...

Just a weakness in the hardware , I had the opposite experience , a remap fixed my clutch !!

I will be taking it further anyway but i really need my car so Il needty get to work onit hopefully something stupid like a broken lifted or something but wont know till its stripped

lol how did the map fix your clutch did it take power off ?

what could the worse case scenario be guys ? Dropped a valve or something ?

In the tdi World often there is a boost torque spike around 2k that's aggressive to the clutch , tyres etc that's why a tuning box of frogs is a bad idea as it will amplify the spike in the map .

Get the right re map that brings in more torque but more smoothly and it's easier on the clutch than a stock map .

130PD to 180 bhp :icon thumright:

was the tc light flickering as its missing?
a totally dead coilpack can make it feel very bad on your first one dying.
absolutely terrible service though.which is why we try 5o persuade people to travel to known tuners.
you didnt deserve this man
chin up!

its my own stupid fault i was planning to take it to hq next week when i was talkin to a guy from the garage he said , Il map it for cheaper so i kjust went for it , obv i cannot blame the map as this is only software but i just cant think what the rattle is it was really loud and fast tapping it was that bad i just knew something was seriously wrong , no lights came on no oil light or nothing

"cannot blame the map"....oh yes you can most definitely.
I suppose there is a very slim chance this may have happened if it was just an ordinary non map life.

I think coils normally through a light on.my garage wouldn't map mine cause i had a aftermarket coil on mine.got 1 from audi getting map tomorrow

This is why you should always use a tuner that knows what he is doing.
I'm from Newcastle and I've just booked my S3 in today for April at Badger5 !
4.5 hour drive but gonna be soooo worth it

i know mate i knew it was a bad idea from the start , i was going to hq next week aswell then i got offerd that map and went for it like a tit , worst move ever, but i suppose even if it needs an engine Av still not lost money haha i got the car for 400 quid, the guy told me somebodys took the a off the back and put an s on pmsl

when my coil went it sounded like a bag of bolts, that was straight after my remap too, it sounds alot worse than just a blown a coilpack!-) im sure its your problem... un plug them one at a time with it running and see if the sound changes, if it doesnt its that pack.

As said, disconnect coil packs one by one until you find one that doesn't change the running of the car.

Then swap it with one of the other coils and see if the misfire follows. If it does then knackered coil pack, if it doesn't then compression test the suspect cylinder.

As above, check the coil packs, you'll possibly find that more than one has failed. I had two fail on me at the same time and I don't have a map

The remap didn't kill it, the extra strain from being asked to do more from std components did. The remap is just software and the "tuner" ( i use this term loosely) should ensure the car is as fit as it can be to take it. Coil pack failure is as common as anything directly afterwards.

I have seen 3 go down on one car due to increased pressure and temps, all before he drove 2 miles to the motorway..

my coils failed after a remap, best replace them all with TFSI ones from awesome their actually cheaper than standard 1.8T coils.

things break

not checking or logging thoroughly before and during however is just unacceptable way to proceed however imho

Yee ha , here come the Cowboys .

Mobile mappers etc that don't at least do a 3rd gear log .

Remaps on older cars can bring out any impending problems or faults.
