So i just bought an A3, a 1,9tdi 2009 sportback to be exact. The car was terrific in terms of exterior and the drive was superb, very smooth, so i decided to get it, coincidentally when asking the old owner to give us an old cd so we are not bored all the way home he says he doesn't listen to music (a little strange was my initial thought) anyway so put the radio on to find the speakers(rear) don't work. Only the tweeters are working and there is a small amount of noise coming from the front speakers also.

So yeh basically the rear speakers don't work at all, the balance and all other settings have been checked everything is normal and balanced so i'm pretty lost as to what the issue is, is it the sub? the amp? do these even have an amp? is it the speakers? the head unit? i'm completely lost on this one any help will be appreciated. Sorry about the long winded post.

They may not even be fitted at all, depends on the model.

Its a 58 plate 1.9 TDI e SE sportback, i think its an 8P1 Chassis, not sure.

So any Ideas?

Se probably doesn't have rear speakers, only 100% way to check is to remove the radio & check for rear speaker wiring or remove a rear door card.

What does the rear speaker wire look like?

can someone give me guidance on how to remove the doorcard, i have no idea where to start, where are the main screws holding it together?

I have a 2008 Audi A3 se tdi 1.9 and no back speakers either, taken the door cards off, no speakers, no loom.

The OP is slightly confusing me. We are saying the rear doors may not have any speakers but he says the rear tweeters work?

the front tweeters and speakers are working, the rear speakers are not working.

Thank you for clarifying. And just to clarify one more thing, when you say the rear speakers don't work do you mean they don't work or do you mean you aren't sure if there are any installed in the first place?

To be honest, I would buy and fit a set of http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/speakers/component-systems/6-5-inch-comp-17cm/hertz-dieci-dsk-165-3 Hertz Dieci speakers.
Pulled the doorcard off after some struggle.

There are no rear tweeters or speakers.

Do you guys think there will also not be any amp or sub in the back?

Will those Hertz speakers be good on there own or will they require an amp & sub?

Thanks for the help!

No, those speakers don't require an amp or sub. They are designed to run off your existing equipment but will provide better sound quality than the Audi speakers.

i've been searching the forums regarding speakers installs, and found out that no audi head units have rear speakers outputs, they all need a rear amp which then powers the rear speakers, so i guess this means i will need an amp too? i'm guessing seen as there are no rear speakers, there will probably also be no rear amp, but i need to check, anyone have any idea where i can find the amp?

In my car the Bose subwoofer is behind the passenger side panel in the boot. The amp is behind the driver side panel.

Also get yourself some Audi radio keys that will allow you to remove your head unit. On the top of it there will be a sticker telling you what all the pins do. Check if there are any pins for rear speakers.

What head unit do you have? That looks nothing like mine...I have the RNS-E mkII

Any of the Hertz amplifiers. HCP4 or HCP4D.

With a 4 channel amp you can run the rears off the amplifier and a sub using the other 2 channels bridged. Or you can run all four doors from the amplifier.

Thats a little out of my budget, i need some cheap which can do the job for now until i can afford the hertz amplifier.

This.

or:

This JBL amp is £99.99.
So i got the hertz hcp4 amp anyway, what is the best sub to get, Ideally i would like to fit the subwoofer it into the space on the passenger side panel in the boot.

Bolton.

In other news got my speakers installed, woah such a big difference, the front ones sound useless now, i think those need replacing too as they make everything sound crap at higher volumes.
