Text Messages via Phone Set-Up

Just got my 1st Audi last week (64 plate A3 Sportback s-line).

I found this video - - I don't have the 'Show notifications' option on the bluetooth settings on my iPhone 6 for my car bluetooth connection.

Is there something I need to do to activate it or is my system just not compatible?

Cheers,

Wilko

You need to make sure the Bluetooth profile on your phone (Audi_MMI) is setup to "Show Notifications". It also needs activated in the Settings of the MMI

I don't have the 'Show Notifications' option on the profile on my phone (iPhone 6). How do I activate/check the setting on the MMI?

It maybe that it's the Text message dictation service I'm thinking of activating so once you've got the Bluetooth profile on your iPhone setup with "Show Notifications" enabled it should start working

Yep, i went in there and def no 'Show Notifications' option (see pic)

Actually, is this feature only available if you have Audi Connect?

Andy is right. The text message feature is part of the tech pack with Audi connect.

No, text message support (to read messages) is standard with Tech Pack, you don't need Connect unless you also want to dictate new messages.

I have both my iPhone and my Nexus 5 working fine with text messages through my Tech Pack without Connect. Not sure why it's not working with iPhone 6 tho.

^ Correct.

I have Tech Pack, no Connect, iPhone 6, and can read text messages on the MMI, and the MMI can read text messages aloud to me.

(But even if you have Connect, it won't do dictation with iPhone, just Android).

As above, Connect not needed to read messages.

There's something wrong with the iPhone end of this as the Show Notifications should be there but obviously isn't. It's there on my 5S with iOS 8.

I'd try deleting the pairing and re-pairing it again to see if it appears.

Mine is a company car and I don't remember adding the tech pack. Is there a way to know if I've got it? (I don't imagine I have)

slightly OT , but don't consider using a Samsung S4 phone, with Tech Pack, it sometimes show the contents of my txt inbox and the few times it has worked did show notifications. Now doesn't work anymore, have paired and unpaired, even had dealer re-install the software on the car.... nothing works.

I suspect you'd remember adding it as it's a £1.5k option. The giveaways are the larger screen (popup is physically the same size but display is larger with a smaller black surround - the video you posted above is the Tech Pack screen) and the four soft buttons around the MMI wheel are silver rather than black.

Andy have you already "paired" your phone with the MMI system? You need to do that first before "SHow Notifications" will show up, as having paired your phone, you then go Settings -> Bluetooth and under My Devices select the "Audi_MM!_nnnn" - its under there. Having set that up, you can then go into the MMI system to get it to pair for the texts. But your phone must be paired to the car first before you can set this up.

I'm on IOS 8 with an I-Phone 5. Try up grading the phones. It's a nice touch when you can read your messages on the go.

Not whilst your driving I hope!

I don't have the connect, but have the silver buttons.
Still, no messages or email options show on the MMI. Also don't have the notifications option on the iPhone :(

I seem to get messages through now, but you can't go in and read old messages - so they come through, but then if you want to go back in and look at that message on a different journey later on in the day so, then that's not possible.

Also had the one email through but no others!

Re not being able to read previous or old messages. It's by design.

Nothing worse that your other half being able to scroll through your old messages ;)

It's bad enough when a new one arrives and they are in the car with you ;)

:lmfao:

Erm, I can read all my previous messages! So there's no "it's by design" about it.

^ yours is a weird car though !

So is it your unique car, or is it an Android thing?

Definitely can't read previous messages with mine, and with iPhone !

iPhone 5 here, I can only read new messages too.

I could read historic messages on my Android fine. It's the iPhone that you can't. I think this is because iPhone messages aren't always "true" SMS (due to iMessages) so they have to hook into the notification (hence why you have to enable the option on your iPhone).

Ah, looks like another incomplete implementation of the Apple iPhone Bluetooth stack

What's weird about my car?! It's feeling all insulted now :p

Nexus 5 - can read all historic texts. Also brings across all the contact photos which my previous One-X didn't.

It's one of the very few that does rSAP properly ;)

Weird according to Audi ;)

Well, yes! Not that I use it though, still have a separate SIM in the car. I did catch it during the brief window. No 4G though!
