So I posted this yesterday in the detailing section:

Collecting my S3 Hatchback on Sunday 1st of March and want to get a good protective layer on it sharpish!! What Nano paint protection products do people rate highly? Been looking at EXO V2 or NANOLEX .....

Are these products worth the extra dollar ....? ...or is my current routine of Autoglym HD wax + SONAX of a similar protection?

Thanks in advance for advice / help :thumbs up:

...
OK so it might be me being impatient or being used to the fast response time on the 8V section...but with no feedback as of yet.....so I am going to try you guys on the above question...?

I expect answer in no more than 60secs HaHa :jester:

Will be by hand at first ....but I have been thinking of getting a DA for a while now. Couldn't justify it on the DS3, but I think I will get one for the S3 :thumbs up:

I am just looking for a good product to have as a protective layer, which will last for 12 months. I will AG HD Wax and Sonax Brilliant shine once a month as usual.

When I got mine I gave it a full de contamination and used Gyeon Cancoat. Really easy to use, good protection and lasts 4/6 months

If your wanting long lasting protection look at ceramic coatings. Gtechniq, cquartz or carbon collective.

I know nothing about detailing, however I pick up my S3 on the 2nd March and on the 3rd it's going to Revolution Detailing for a full detail and then being covered in gtechniq Crystal Serum + Exo, I1 on all fabric, L1 on all leather, wheels off and fully coated in C5, G1 on all the glass. Hopefully that will help protect all aspects of the car.

I should have my car back late on the 4th, so i'll make sure to show pictures from collection + after detailing, then time will tell on how well filth sticks to the car.

How much is that setting you back?

Yes I am already looking at the EXO V2 .......think I need to fully research the application process to make sure I feel comfortable in doing it and also the risks if it goes wrong :tapedshut:

Until the car has actually been detailed I can't say 100% how much it will set me back but the rough quote I got was £399 for the detail, then £440 for the other parts. I'm hoping to reduce the price, as the £399 is for a large car and having seen my car in the flesh I don't see it as a large car. But I could be wrong.

Blimey!!!!! I will definitely be buying my own DA polisher and do it myself :thumbs up: ...I have just read over what they do to the car and 70% of it I already do to my own car. A DA only costs £200 if that ......then its just a few potions/chemicals and I am sorted for a few years.

Will look forward to your pics :)

Sounds like a spot on plan! If I wasn't so worried that I would damage the paint with the DA I would do the same, as from what i've read a good polish and wax will give the same results as the treatments i'm going for, if not better.

Mate, I was the same. Do not worry - I did my partners A1 last year with the DA. They are pretty much idiot proof when it comes to causing damage.

I paid just over £120 off for my Da6-Pro with case.

Hmmm.... I was looking at the Meguiars Dual Action G220 @ £150

What's the pad selection / cost like for the DA6-Pro ?

I went to a local detail wholesaler and bought a DA a few years back along with a load of Blackfire sealants and waxes (because they were reccomended for the dark blue Focus RS) and the guy there gave me a full on lesson and instructions on the DA and provided pads which are almost impossible to cause any damage with (his words) He let me pratcise on some old panels in the warehouse and then I practised fully on my Mrs car!! lol

I have used the DA on all of my cars and family members and never had any issues. Gentle pressure and forgiving pads - takes longer to correct swirls, but the gradual process makes it easier to ensure you dont remove too much coat.

I will be going for the Blackfire Wet Ice over Fire Kit for my new car, only using the DA if the paint requires it. Going to do the usual decontamination of the paint, claying and finish with sealant of the wheels, glass and interior / metals with G Technic. Did this on the RS and M135i and it worked a treat.

I'll be doing mine myself I think at that price. I love the gtechniq stuff used it on the last two cars from new.

Not got onto a DA yet but might give it a go. Soon get a couple of old body panels from a scrap yard to practice on.

where you at Brasso? I'll call round and you can Practice on mine LOL

I am tempted now to get a DA and do it myself, I've seen the videos for applying the gtechniq solutions to various materials and it didn't look too tough.

The only thing I would state is I wouldn't advise applying Crystal Serum yourself, any moisture or issues with the application if not caught fast enough, the only way to get it off the car is to wet sand it.

I'll be giving my s3 the Carlack treatment (complete & long life sealant). 12 months protection from 1 application.

I also have a bottle of collinite 845 for extra protection on top of that!!!

DA is good for removing swirls but make sure you get the correct polish and pads as some are much more aggressive than others and some are too soft and won't budge the swirls. A good tip which I didn't follow at first is to make sure you set the speed at very low to spread the polish before increasing the speed to work the polish.

If you find a good local supplier who knows his or her stuff then call in with the car and have a chat with them. They will definately know what paint your car is on the scale of hard to soft and then match a polish / cutting compound and pad along with a wax and sealant best suited to the colour.

I managed to get to a routine where I only needed the DA twice a year spring and before winter usually to give the car a full detail. In between if you wash carefully and use a good wax and seal, you can get away with washing and topping up the final wax layer as the paint beneath will be okay.

Its reading stuff like that which puts me off doing it myself ....... I am happy to buy a DA polisher and get stuck in, but if there is a risk I will mess it up and ruin my car then I will stay well clear.

Not done the crystal serum and would agree that's one to get done by someone who knows what they are doing. I prefer my more traditional cleanse and wax. I have a lovely pot of zymol i was bought that I've been using on the last two cars. Lovely finish. I really enjoy putting it on by hand.

There are other more safe sealant products which last well if topped up and your wash routine is good (2 buckets and good rinsing before and careful drying afterwards) I have tried Gtechnic C2 V3 and that really worked well and lasted a good couple of months I would say by the beading it used to give. It's so easy to apply too.

You won't need a DA to apply the protection,When we got our car last year applied Nanolex Ultra paint and alloys,Its fantastic and easy to do.Make sure car is fully cleaned apply cleaner fluid then protection, leave for half hour, buff off and gives upto 18-24 months protection depending on maintenance.Do it yourself for about £80 all in.

I think I am going to stick to what I know and to what I already do .....I am a car cleaning addict so have no issues with a full cleanse..wash...wax...once a month (Or when needed) ...I usually wash every 2 weeks (Used to do every week, but that was just overkill and increases the risk of swirls). I have just about every Autoglym product ever made so pretty much armed to the teeth on the car cleaning front :gun2: .....:redrs4:.......:sign wow:
