ADvice needed!

i have been quoted £270 from ELITE in leeds???

is that good bad...worth doing...or cause more damage then good?

That's a pretty good price, couldn't comment on the company them selves but they appear to be a fairly large Europe wide company and develop all they're own software, so should be pretty trust worthy... I mean, you'd have to be pretty daft to make a map that'll be detrimental to the cars health anyway!

Also more mpg's when you're taking it easy, more smiles per mile when you're not :icon thumright: win win!

its my first remap ever so im worried about side effects etc!! i know google tells me il be fine... but id rather someone with experience in this

also my worry is my car just doesnt get much traction when i put my foot down ever!! so will i feel the difference....it just spins! my 19" low profiles dont seem to secure much grip!

There are no real "side effects" as such... Yea, remapped FWD cars can be a pain in the *** in the wet. And big low profile tyres don't particularly help either! Especially cheap tyres. . .

I'm all for remaps though... I can bet you, you will not be disappointed if you did go a head!

You won't regret it, I've remapped every turbo'd car I've had except my current one as I don't want to invalidate the warranty. It is the single best thing you will ever do to your car. All my cars have been 100k miles+ when remapped and I've never had any problems.

My MK5 Golf was a 170 2.0tdi fwd and it was a little prone to spinning the front wheels in the wet but not enough to ever regret remapping it.....the characteristics of the car are transformed for the better in every sense.

What tyres and how much tread do you have left? Got to say I don't find my fwd A5 2.0tdi at all bad for grip, I'm running on Michelin's in the summer and Dunlop winter tyres over winter. I find the winter tyres make a big difference to grip over the cold wet period.

Keep us updated on your remap

Guys you have swayed me Il get it done! I am based in Bradford area

I will keep you posted then! Need to get it booked in

What tyres do you have onthe front ??. If they are cheap Chinese Ditchfinders then prepare for more wheelspin in the damp / wet when the car is mapped.
You may have to invest in some decent rubber to get the best out of the remap.

So I've had this same issue on my previous car (A4 2.0 TDI FWD) which was brand new with Continentals, and having just picked up my new A5 1.8TFSI with Dunlop SP Sport's I'm getting it even more. You really have to ease on the throttle to get going in a hurry. I've put it down to the slippery roads and cold temperatures for now. However, one thing did occur to me which I thought would be interesting to put across to everyone for their opinions.

Would rear weight transfer during hard acceleration play any part? So when accelerating hard obviously the weight transfers to the rear of the car, and with the weight at the back and not over the front wheels the wheels will struggle for grip (FWD cars)? This also leads me to think that stiffening up the suspension may help with this issue? I'm currently on the OEM Sport suspension. Thoughts?

Good man, you will not be disappointed! . . Generic maps are fine, but if you ask me, when it come to mapping it's worth going a little further a field and perhaps spending a bit more to see a decent custom mapper. Like niki @R-tec

Often the problem with generic maps is that they request as much boost as possible as soon as it's available or even before it's available... The result is a car that feels really fast (due to being punched in the face with torque!) but driveability is hampered and you will struggle even more to get that traction down!

I know there are some good diesel tuners up north as well, their names escape me at this moment though!

This is exactly correct, and pretty much the sole reason RWD cars are better at getting traction off the line... Suspension set up can help - on the drag strip some FWD run higher rear suspension to help soak up the rear end dump on launch and improve traction.

All that being said my A3 is knocking on for 300bhp these days, and it's far from undriveable... I'm sure you boys will manage just fine! :icon thumright:

Ok interesting, thats for the input! Will provide feedback once I've had the stiffer springs installed.

One month in to the ownership of my new A5 2.0tdi 177 Quattro S-tronic and I'm finding the engine so dull and flat, seems different to my old A5 2.0tdi fwd manual, wishing I'd gone for the 3.0tdi, so looks like I now need a remap, was always on the cards but thought I'd enjoy the car as standard until the warranty ran out.....not a chance! Anyone any experience to share on the transformation to expect with the 2.0tdi Quattro S-tronic? Also not sure if I should go to a specialist as I have in the past or go the bluefin route which is new to me!

Fabio how did you get on? Did you get your temap done?

i felt the same, wish i had got the 3.0tdi ... even with the remap i still wish i did...

Howevver was the remap worth it? 100%%

The car pulls right through all the revs! thats the difference! it might not have a higher top speed ... but it was 100% worth it!!

you will notice it more with the quattro as you will have the grip behind to put your foot down. i would deffitnyl recommend it anyway

Sounds like I'd best just get on with it and get it remapped as soon as I can, unfortunately I don't think my current insurer will cover remaps, so might have to wait until renewal in 8 months!! Might be a long wait, unless I cancel my current insurance and start again!

Hi! Did you get a remap done? I have a 2.0 TFSI which is quick now but I am considering a remap? Is it worth it??

I did remap mine in the end, for me it was exactly as Fabio said, still wish I'd gone for the 3.0tdi but at least the car pulls all the way through the gears now. 100% worth it.

I wouldn't hesitate to have the 2.0tfsi done, especially if it's a Quattro. I've remapped every turbo car I've had and never once regretted it. Always improved the daily drive ability of the car, car is smoother and provides more confidence when overtaking.

If you car model year is 08-11 make sure you have the oil issue checked before doing any remapping. Can harm your ability to get the fix for free.

I would agree on a remap, but I never got my FWD 2.0 TFSI done. The wheel spin at stock was enough to drive me up the wall that I personally couldn't see myself enjoying any remapping....

If its quattro thats a different matter. Having moved to an S5 now, the brute force of the power with the instant traction is immense :)

Thanks for the reply guys. It's a 211 bhp version atm and the garage said it would probably go to about 250 with more torque (sold me the dream basically). I have not had a single problem with oil on it at the moment, does this only happen when remapped? Jealous about your S5- drove a friends the other day!

No nothing to do with a remap. Its just a design fault on most A4, A5 and Q5 2.0TFSI models built around those years. For the A5 its all 2.0TFSI pre-facelift (2008-2011). The problem causes the car to consume stupid amounts of oil. I was getting through 1lt oil every 400miles...

A good thread over on A5OC about it:
http://www.a5oc.com/forums/a5-general-q/90849-2-0-tfsi-oil.html

Basically...Audi have finally admitted fault and now fix the issue free of charge following a fail on their oil consumption test (consumes more than 0.5lt after 621miles). This will either be a stage 1, which is software (rarely bother with this has it doesn't help...), stage 2, which is replacement of rods and pistons (I had this done), or Stage 3, which involves replacing the engine block if the engine bores have been damaged.

The only times I've seen people asked to contribute to the cost is when they don't have full audi service history, and don't have exact details of oil used at any indy service, or if they have modified the engines through remaps, etc. When you consider the cost of stage 2 is about £4k and stage 3 is £12k...i don't think any proportion towards it would be nice...!

My advice is just to hold fire and monitor your oil for at least another 1000miles. See if the oil gauge drops or if your oil warning light comes on. If it does, fill it up with 1lt as requested, reset the odometer and record how much the oil goes down after 600miles. If its more than halfway, get it booked in for the fix.

After that....remap away to your hearts content :)

Cheers buddy. Have to say I am enjoying the S5 quite a lot....!
