I'm looking for a fmic set up for my b6 tdi to go with the bv43 turbo I've just bought before I get it remapped. Seen a kit for the 1.8 20vt a4 for a bargin price so wondered if there was much difference in position of turbo and intake between the 2 engines? If the set up is close enough it won't be too hard to mod to fit :)

Does look like a good piece of kit but a bit on the large side for a BV43, 1.8t and 1.9tdi are different and will need adaption. The SMIC from Darkside or a similar sized FMIC would suit it well.

All sorted. Decided to say sod it and ordered a fmic from darkside. Wasn't cheap but did a private job that basically paid for it and the guys at darkside where really helpful

I need one for my 2.5 180 tdi. My driver's side intercooler is leaking and it would probably be cheaper to go FMIC so any suggestions..?

You making the pipe work up yourself? Quite easy to do, when I did my passat I made a tool with a pair of mole grips to flare the pipe work and found adapters on eBay to mate up with the inlet plenum, the bv43 paired with a longitudinal 1.9tdi engine is awesome fun, I burned out my 15K old clutch just from power alone :jump: took my mate out and said it compared to his friends tweeked S3, raced a Porsche boxer and gave it such a good run for his money that he waved as I pulled into a car park and he drove past, I miss the fun of my passat but it just wasn't as practical, I do miss the MPG figures though, mine still used to do >60mpg if being really gentle, dessertstorm also had a bv43 passat he had his on the rolling road and it made 210bhp.

I bought a whole kit which arrived today at my bros work. Can't wait to see what its like

Dessertstorm is running a 3.0tdi not a 1.9tdi, his old passat wagon was running a bv43 with eBay fmic kit.

Liking the look of that! If the engine light comes on, you could get the egr programmed out when you fit all your stuff and remap it?

That's the plan, I just need to fit my egr delete at same time as fmic as I opted for the not clipped pipes.if the light comes on but it drives that same then I'll just put up with the light on till map time

I tried it on my 53 plate and the light came on. So I just cleaned everything out and fitted a smaller gasket from a fabia to reduce the gases. My EML sometimes comes on from time to time when travelling at speed for a prolonged period of time. And that just started when I fitted the gasket!

Will give it a try this weekend. Can't wait to get it all fitted and see what difference it makes before the map

Must be something like certain batches of the ecu during the manufacturing possibly

Yeah probably! 2003 seems to be the most variable year I think. 'Usually' pre 2003 get the EML and post 2003 don't. I emphasise on usually though haha. I'm no expert just seems to be the trend on what I've read :)

Nope, best to fit early side mounted intercoolers, fmic will create lag to an already laggy turbo ! I just fitted a stock turbo to my old b5 saloon, with large +80% nozzles it was stupidly fast ! Sold it to one of my cousins so did not have much time to take the injectors off, that's another job for next week end !

The eml light will come on if your car is Euro 3 emissions compliant, that's the reason for the change, adapting the EGR map is very easy to do esp on the bosch EDC15 ecu's as fitted to the PD engines, I can't remember if there was a code on the build sticker for euro3 but you can also tell by the last 2 letters on the ecu part number.

oh and the changover year for euro3 was 2003 hence why it's this year that's effected by the eml.

Removed the vacuum pipe from the egr tonight and took it for a little drive. It drives loads better without the egr and cold start is alot smoother also

All I've seen on there are 1.9 bits though...?

Hopefully I've just secured a used one of ebay so finger's crossed it's ok. They're not far from me if it's shagged....

Surely a front mount intercooler of simular size to the 2x smic's would be more efficient do to its placement?

Jimmy when you have fitted your dark side kit let me know what it's like to to do and what needs cutting or modifying as the Mrs is buying me one as present. Haha I'm lucky boy.

What is your plans? You getting everything fitted in one go inc. the turbo? Or you doing it in stages? :)
