Reading the FAQ's it seems to indicate that 128gb sd cards are compatabile with the S3. Does anyone have experience of this. And if you do what make/ model of card are you using.

I have just over 130gb of AAC files (15,000ish) all 256kbs. Happy to loose a few tracks to fit on a card but want to make sure I get one that works.

Either that or it's a 240gb ssd and a caddy.

Well, I have an A3 and the maximum SD card size according to my manual is 64GB. Mind you, there should be provision for two of them.

Well if it's only 64gb for an sd card I'll go with a ssd or hdd.

Thanks veeeight. At the price is sdxc cards are I'll be going hdd/ssd.

The manual is very clear, as are those threads - 2 x 64GB. I haven't seen anyone who has tried anything bigger. SDXC provides for up to 2TB of storage but there are no cards you can buy of that capacity. The brochure states 2TB, but yet again it is yet more weasel-wording from a manufacturer once you look in the manual.

If you do get an external USB HD there is also another bit of manual weasel-wording. You can have 10000 files per folder or 10000 files per device, total, which might well be a problem. If you can get a large capacity iPod that might work out better with your 15000 or you might be able to spread them over your USB drive and a SD card or the jukebox.

Again, the manual is clear...... YMMV......

.....along with the number of files limit (which will affect this), the scanning and seek time and corner cases such as what happens when you try and store more than 64GB worth of files on a larger card.

Again, the manual is clear.

So I may be mis-reading this but to me it sounds as if the programmers & testers were only able to test up to 64gb and as such the software may have been optimized for that size. However the form factor can handle much larger sizes and as such there is nothing stopping you from using cards larger than 64gb but there is no guarantee that the functionality above 64gb will be stable.

But thats taken from comments in this thread as I don't have the manual yet, as my S3 is awaiting collection.

That said, seems a pointless argument, seeing as someone is using a 128gb card with no issues.

I'm afraid they don't put stuff in the manual for the goodness of their health and it's there for a reason. Of course the little weasels don't tell us what those reasons are. Someone might well be using a larger card perfectly fine (and great, try it out, break the rules), but again, there's no further information on if they're storing more than 64GB of files and at that size the number of files limit will almost certainly kick in anyway.

The most annoying thing I've found with using a SD card or 'dumb' storage, although it's very good and better than I expected, is it doesn't seem to pay attention to disk numbers so your track ordering gets screwed up. Apart from that it's great not having to muck about with bluetooth.

Neither do they get it correct 100% of the time. My 8P Owners Manual had 2 addendum correction sheets.

Well I'll wait for the car and see. I have a 240gb ssd spare so can give that a try. And the wife has a 128gb card in her camera so I can try that too.

Roll on the car arriving.

Recently bought this and it's working fine :-

Transcend 128Gb Ultimate SDXC UHS class 3 memory card (R95/W60Mb/s)

£59.19 from Amazon.
