Jay A3 's 1.8T On-Going Build Thread

So drive home from work and I could feel the engine not running right. Slight hunting to the point the car wanted to cut out. Nursed it home, engine off and back on again to see if it had gone. Still there so popped the good and search for a leak. Heard a hissing noise, luckily it was only a split vacuum pipe above the charge pipe.

Will get a part number and hopefully TPS have some.

On another note I have this little bad boy to fit. Shot blasted and freshly powder coated 28mm neuspeed rear anti roll bar.

Read this will really improve handling, so can't wait to get this on

FYI - if you wanted better dampers you can get A3 8L FWD Bilstein B8 Sprint shocks from Germany for like £400 incl tax and shipping.

They cost like £550 from UK suppliers

Or you can get Bilstein B4 sport dampers posted for under £190 if you look around aswwell

I will update you on how it feels. The cheapest I found it new was £260 for a neuspeed one

New hose all fitted and running well. Part number was 8L9 612 041 D. I had to use my existing connector but all is well.

Manage to get the rear arb fitted too!

I've got it on the softest setting just to get used to it. First impressions... Love it! The back of the car really feels tight now, when I turn into a corner the back end follows and there seems to be a lot more grip! Needs to use it a bit more and test it out. Find times!

I stuck a r32 RARB on mine with black polybushes, one of the best things i ever done when it comes to handling, made a world of difference

I've got 22mm front and a 25mm rear Eibach ARBs to go on mine, what have you put on the front to compliment the rARB?

Got a question for anyone in the know here, I've put s3 front and rear brakes on my agu do I need an s3 master cylinder aswell or not as the brakes just aren't sharp since upgrading tried new pads and my old ones just to see if was the pads have bled them 4 times with eazi bleed the pedal is nice and hard no leaks nothing just not very sharp had them bedded in for 3 weeks now, I mean they stop there just poor starting to regret the up/downgrade lol something's wrong here I know? Any help dude

I'm running the s3 front arb. I was told the way they sit around the shafts and hook onto the shocks they handle better. And I totally agree.

As far as I'm aware you don't need the s3 master cylinder. What fluid did you use? Did you bleed it in the right order? Backs first then fronts

Yeah mate done back furthest front closest back then front again then I done both back both fronts then back furthest back other front and front all the same no difference I bled the master cylinder aswell which helped the pedal feel but not the sharpness I Wudnt drive fast around lanes or around cars anyway at the minute put it that way lol just dot 4 halfords ***** ATM got rbf660 on order but would still expect the brakes to be way better than this as they were previously on standard discs, best up is braided lines and fluid see if that helps then ds2500 as I'm getting some anyway but wasn't planning on it yet

My brake pedal isn't the greatest but there was improvement when I upgraded. I have braided lines to upgrade to but haven't had a chance. It was smoother rather than a sharper feel.

Yeah mines like that smooth and stead to strong rather than sharp and strong, went in the girlfriends new golf gt tdi and nearly head butted the windowscreen haha

Hahaha that's exactly the same as me! Others feel sharper. As soon as you tap the brakes bam instant!

Hmmm, now I'm confused as to what to do. I've also got a LCR 19mm fARB that I could fit.

But which would he benefit more from? The 19mm lcr/s3 arb or the 22mm eibach ones?

Same as an s3 19mm front.
They share the same front end, hubs, wishbones etc
That's why I mentioned it :p Also have the hubs wishbones etc to fit at the same time :)

This was what i was trying to get at, in my mind the larger diameter of the Eibach would make a greater difference than the slightly different design of the S3/LCR fARB. Oi @Prawn care to divulge some wisdom?

Slight rev issue where it sits at 1200rpm when you come to a stop and drop the clutch. Few seconds later it slowly drops to 900rpm.

4 bolts and 1 electrical plug and the throttle body was off. Thought I would give it a clean with carb cleaner, maybe a build up was causing the problem...

Cleaned and sprayed. New gasket £3 from Tps.

.

Not too bad of a finish. (More boredom but nice to be working on the motor again)

Just found your thread now Jay, only took me a couple of months lol Met you at the AMD rolling day last year (Akoya Silver 8P on the right)

Will read through your thread properly shortly. Haven't done anything new to my car apart from maintenance.

Did set myself a new record though for one tank!

Not bad eh? Haven't had the patience lately to do it again though!

Yeh I remember pal. How you been? Car was looking sweet! Wow that is a record. I probably wouldn't even see a third of that mpg!!

Yeah not too bad thanks and cheers! haha I'm sure you wouldn't but you would be having a lot more fun with all that power! It's the 700 miles on one tank which was the achievement, not so much the 68mpg!

Just caught up with this and seen the tags from 3 weeks ago :p
Sorry lads!

@craigt1985 : assuming your coilovers have the tabs, use the Lcr 19mm strut mounted bar coupled with your eibach 25 rear. Sell the eibach 22 front for £60 and head to the pub!

So you would definitely recommend using the 19mm FARB and selling the Eibach?

I would yea.

Body roll isn't the most evil thing in the world, and you want a road car to be compliant. I'd advocate the biggest differential front - rear of the available combos.

Also worth noting that you won't be able to use the eibach when you fit LCR wishbones as the mounts will be gone.

Equally worth noting, is that the strut mounted ARB acts with a direct 1:1 ratio with wheel movement as it's on the strut. When mounted half way down the wishbone there's additional leverage due to the arm lengths, so a 19mm strut mounted bar will be stiffer on the car than a 19mm wishbone mounted bar, so whilst I can't put figures to it, the 19mm strut mounted bar you have won't be so different from a 22mm wishbone mounted bar in terms of roll resistance anyway :)

I know A3's and S3's have a totally different setup (I have a S3 with AP coilovers), but I was wondering what size ARB's you would recommend for road and track use (more use on the road but I don't mind sacrificing a bit of ride comfort etc if it will handle better on the track).

I was looking at this http://www.awesomegti.com/car/audi/...o-4wd-stabiliser-holder-at-the-shock-absorber

Front 25mm rear 21mm, but it seems you recommend a much larger rear arb and not so large front? Or is that only for A3's? Suspension isn't my strong point!

Been a quiet month for me. Picked up a few little goodies :p

Eibach 5mm front spacers and eibach 15mm rears with longer m14x1.5 tapered bolts

Good light quality with a coating on to prevent/ prolong corrosion

Happy with how it now sits.

Also been testing out these CG Locks for a friend of mine. Very impressed with them

2 minutes to install. Removes and movement / slack of the belt across your lap. Once you tighten it, it holds you into giu seat so when cornering your not sliding around.

Also picked up so much needed brakes. 312s were a decent upgrade from the 288s but time to move on.

Prepped and currently being sprayed

I have got new fluid and LCR braided lines to go with it. 323mm here I come! Will try and get this fitted next weekend :)
