Leave your back box on mind, I took my centre section out and removed the back box. It became far too loud on a daily basis.
Be interesting to hear this with only the centre out. I already had the back box off when I removed mine

Impressions:

Is defenitely not loud, it just adds a deeper note, just a tad louder. From the putise i seriously has no idea.

At idle is is just more bassy.. not huge.

Not a bad mod.

Im waiting for my go pro to arrive, promise to post videos.

I overtook a bus last week, in manual mode....... quick 1st.... 2nd and 3rd, and a Cop/Police/Guard walking up the road pulled me over and told me to drive slower! I was only going 50kph at max.....

Dam that exhaust ;)
 
I would love the "blip" noise but it doesn't seem like these 1.8's can do that.

Anyone know how to achieve it?

On the upshifts? Short of drilling holes in the exhaust or replacing the rear pipe with something aftermarket then I think you are out of luck.

I do get a blip on downshifts but certainly not as loud as the S3 videos I have seen.

Yeah on the upshifts. The polo GTI 1.4tsi seems to do it quite well with some mods, not sure what they are though..
 
Where's them vids we were promised? Thinking about doing the same to mine
